Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left at Athens alone;

And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith:
3 τὸ — τὸ the μηδένα — μηδένα no–one σαίνεσθαι — σαίνεσθαι to–be–disturbed ἐν — ἐν in ταῖς — ταῖς the θλίψεσιν — θλίψεσιν afflictions ταύταις. — ταύταις. these αὐτοὶ — αὐτοὶ yourselves γὰρ — γὰρ for– οἴδατε — οἴδατε you–know ὅτι — ὅτι that εἰς — εἰς for τοῦτο — τοῦτο this κείμεθα. — κείμεθα. we–are–destined
That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto.
4 καὶ — καὶ and– γὰρ, — γὰρ, for– ὅτε — ὅτε when πρὸς — πρὸς with ὑμᾶς — ὑμᾶς you ἦμεν, — ἦμεν, we–were προελέγομεν — προελέγομεν we–told–before ὑμῖν — ὑμῖν you ὅτι — ὅτι that μέλλομεν — μέλλομεν we–are–about θλίβεσθαι, — θλίβεσθαι, to–be–afflicted καθὼς — καθὼς just–as καὶ — καὶ also– ἐγένετο, — ἐγένετο, it–happened καὶ — καὶ and– οἴδατε. — οἴδατε. you–know
For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.
5 διὰ — διὰ because–of τοῦτο — τοῦτο this κἀγὼ, — κἀγὼ, I–also μηκέτι — μηκέτι no–longer στέγων, — στέγων, bearing ἔπεμψα — ἔπεμψα I–sent εἰς — εἰς for– τὸ — τὸ the γνῶναι — γνῶναι to–know τὴν — τὴν the πίστιν — πίστιν faith ὑμῶν; — ὑμῶν; of–you μή — μή lest πως — πως somehow ἐπείρασεν — ἐπείρασεν tempted ὑμᾶς — ὑμᾶς you ὁ — ὁ the πειράζων, — πειράζων, tempter καὶ — καὶ and– εἰς — εἰς for κενὸν — κενὸν emptiness γένηται — γένηται became ὁ — ὁ the κόπος — κόπος labor ἡμῶν. — ἡμῶν. of–us
For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.
6 Ἄρτι — Ἄρτι just–now δὲ, — δὲ, but– ἐλθόντος — ἐλθόντος having–come Τιμοθέου — Τιμοθέου Timotheos πρὸς — πρὸς to ἡμᾶς — ἡμᾶς us ἀφ’ — ἀφ’ from ὑμῶν, — ὑμῶν, you καὶ — καὶ and– εὐαγγελισαμένου — εὐαγγελισαμένου having–brought–good–news ἡμῖν — ἡμῖν to–us τὴν — τὴν the πίστιν — πίστιν faith καὶ — καὶ and– τὴν — τὴν the ἀγάπην — ἀγάπην love ὑμῶν, — ὑμῶν, of–you καὶ — καὶ and– ὅτι — ὅτι that ἔχετε — ἔχετε you–have μνείαν — μνείαν remembrance ἡμῶν — ἡμῶν of–us ἀγαθὴν — ἀγαθὴν good πάντοτε, — πάντοτε, always ἐπιποθοῦντες — ἐπιποθοῦντες longing ἡμᾶς — ἡμᾶς us ἰδεῖν, — ἰδεῖν, to–see καθάπερ — καθάπερ just–as καὶ — καὶ also– ἡμεῖς — ἡμεῖς we ὑμᾶς. — ὑμᾶς. you
But now when Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you:
7 διὰ — διὰ because–of τοῦτο — τοῦτο this παρεκλήθημεν, — παρεκλήθημεν, we–were–encouraged ἀδελφοί, — ἀδελφοί, brothers ἐφ’ — ἐφ’ over ὑμῖν, — ὑμῖν, you ἐπὶ — ἐπὶ upon πάσῃ — πάσῃ all τῇ — τῇ the ἀνάγκῃ — ἀνάγκῃ distress καὶ — καὶ and– θλίψει — θλίψει affliction ἡμῶν, — ἡμῶν, of–us διὰ — διὰ through τῆς — τῆς the ὑμῶν — ὑμῶν of–you πίστεως. — πίστεως. faith
Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith:
8 ὅτι — ὅτι because νῦν — νῦν now ζῶμεν, — ζῶμεν, we–live ἐὰν — ἐὰν if ὑμεῖς — ὑμεῖς you στήκετε — στήκετε stand–firm ἐν — ἐν in Κυρίῳ. — Κυρίῳ. Lord
For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord.
9 τίνα — τίνα what γὰρ — γὰρ for– εὐχαριστίαν — εὐχαριστίαν thanksgiving δυνάμεθα — δυνάμεθα are–we–able τῷ — τῷ to–the Θεῷ — Θεῷ God ἀνταποδοῦναι — ἀνταποδοῦναι to–repay περὶ — περὶ concerning ὑμῶν, — ὑμῶν, you ἐπὶ — ἐπὶ upon πάσῃ — πάσῃ all τῇ — τῇ the χαρᾷ — χαρᾷ joy ᾗ — ᾗ with–which χαίρομεν — χαίρομεν we–rejoice δι’ — δι’ because–of ὑμᾶς, — ὑμᾶς, you ἔμπροσθεν — ἔμπροσθεν before τοῦ — τοῦ the Θεοῦ — Θεοῦ God ἡμῶν. — ἡμῶν. of–us
For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;
10 νυκτὸς — νυκτὸς by–night καὶ — καὶ and– ἡμέρας, — ἡμέρας, by–day ὑπερεκπερισσοῦ — ὑπερεκπερισσοῦ exceedingly–beyond δεόμενοι — δεόμενοι asking εἰς — εἰς for– τὸ — τὸ the ἰδεῖν — ἰδεῖν to–see ὑμῶν — ὑμῶν of–you τὸ — τὸ the πρόσωπον, — πρόσωπον, face καὶ — καὶ and– καταρτίσαι — καταρτίσαι to–complete τὰ — τὰ the ὑστερήματα — ὑστερήματα lacks τῆς — τῆς of–the πίστεως — πίστεως faith ὑμῶν? — ὑμῶν? of–you
Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?
11 Αὐτὸς — Αὐτὸς himself δὲ — δὲ now– ὁ — ὁ the Θεὸς — Θεὸς God καὶ — καὶ and– Πατὴρ — Πατὴρ Father ἡμῶν, — ἡμῶν, of–us καὶ — καὶ and– ὁ — ὁ the Κύριος — Κύριος Lord ἡμῶν, — ἡμῶν, of–us Ἰησοῦς, — Ἰησοῦς, Iēsous κατευθύναι — κατευθύναι may–direct τὴν — τὴν the ὁδὸν — ὁδὸν way ἡμῶν — ἡμῶν of–us πρὸς — πρὸς to ὑμᾶς. — ὑμᾶς. you
Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you.
12 ὑμᾶς — ὑμᾶς you δὲ, — δὲ, and– ὁ — ὁ the Κύριος — Κύριος Lord πλεονάσαι, — πλεονάσαι, may–increase καὶ — καὶ and– περισσεύσαι, — περισσεύσαι, may–overflow τῇ — τῇ in–the ἀγάπῃ — ἀγάπῃ love εἰς — εἰς toward ἀλλήλους, — ἀλλήλους, one–another καὶ — καὶ and– εἰς — εἰς toward πάντας, — πάντας, all καθάπερ — καθάπερ just–as καὶ — καὶ also– ἡμεῖς — ἡμεῖς we εἰς — εἰς toward ὑμᾶς, — ὑμᾶς, you
And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:
13 εἰς, — εἰς, for τὸ — τὸ the στηρίξαι — στηρίξαι to–establish ὑμῶν — ὑμῶν of–you τὰς — τὰς the καρδίας, — καρδίας, hearts ἀμέμπτους — ἀμέμπτους blameless ἐν — ἐν in ἁγιωσύνῃ — ἁγιωσύνῃ holiness ἔμπροσθεν — ἔμπροσθεν before τοῦ — τοῦ the Θεοῦ — Θεοῦ God καὶ — καὶ and– πατρὸς — πατρὸς Father ἡμῶν, — ἡμῶν, of–us ἐν — ἐν in τῇ — τῇ the παρουσίᾳ — παρουσίᾳ presence τοῦ — τοῦ of–the Κυρίου — Κυρίου Lord ἡμῶν, — ἡμῶν, of–us Ἰησοῦ, — Ἰησοῦ, Iēsous μετὰ — μετὰ with πάντων — πάντων all τῶν — τῶν the ἁγίων — ἁγίων holy–ones αὐτοῦ. — αὐτοῦ. of–him [ἀμήν]. — [ἀμήν]. amen
To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.
