Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.
2 οἴδατε — οἴδατε you–know γὰρ — γὰρ for– τίνας — τίνας what παραγγελίας — παραγγελίας instructions ἐδώκαμεν — ἐδώκαμεν we–gave ὑμῖν, — ὑμῖν, to–you διὰ — διὰ through τοῦ — τοῦ the Κυρίου — Κυρίου Lord Ἰησοῦ. — Ἰησοῦ. Iēsous
For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.
3 Τοῦτο — Τοῦτο this γάρ — γάρ for– ἐστιν — ἐστιν is θέλημα — θέλημα will τοῦ — τοῦ of–the Θεοῦ, — Θεοῦ, God ὁ — ὁ the ἁγιασμὸς — ἁγιασμὸς sanctification ὑμῶν: — ὑμῶν: of–you ἀπέχεσθαι — ἀπέχεσθαι to–abstain ὑμᾶς — ὑμᾶς you ἀπὸ — ἀπὸ from τῆς — τῆς the πορνείας; — πορνείας; fornication
For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:
4 εἰδέναι — εἰδέναι to–know ἕκαστον — ἕκαστον each ὑμῶν — ὑμῶν of–you τὸ — τὸ the ἑαυτοῦ — ἑαυτοῦ of–himself σκεῦος, — σκεῦος, vessel κτᾶσθαι — κτᾶσθαι to–possess ἐν — ἐν in ἁγιασμῷ — ἁγιασμῷ sanctification καὶ — καὶ and– τιμῇ, — τιμῇ, honor
That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;
5 μὴ — μὴ not ἐν — ἐν in πάθει — πάθει passion ἐπιθυμίας, — ἐπιθυμίας, of–lust καθάπερ — καθάπερ just–as καὶ — καὶ also– τὰ — τὰ the ἔθνη, — ἔθνη, nations τὰ — τὰ the μὴ — μὴ not εἰδότα — εἰδότα knowing τὸν — τὸν the Θεόν; — Θεόν; God
Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:
6 τὸ — τὸ the μὴ — μὴ not ὑπερβαίνειν — ὑπερβαίνειν to–transgress καὶ — καὶ and– πλεονεκτεῖν — πλεονεκτεῖν to–defraud ἐν — ἐν in τῷ — τῷ the πράγματι, — πράγματι, matter τὸν — τὸν the ἀδελφὸν — ἀδελφὸν brother αὐτοῦ; — αὐτοῦ; of–him διότι — διότι because ἔκδικος — ἔκδικος avenger Κύριος — Κύριος Lord περὶ — περὶ concerning πάντων — πάντων all τούτων, — τούτων, these καθὼς — καθὼς just–as καὶ — καὶ also– προείπαμεν — προείπαμεν we–told–before ὑμῖν, — ὑμῖν, you καὶ — καὶ and– διεμαρτυράμεθα. — διεμαρτυράμεθα. testified
That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.
7 οὐ — οὐ not γὰρ — γὰρ for– ἐκάλεσεν — ἐκάλεσεν called ἡμᾶς — ἡμᾶς us ὁ — ὁ the Θεὸς, — Θεὸς, God ἐπὶ — ἐπὶ upon ἀκαθαρσίᾳ, — ἀκαθαρσίᾳ, impurity ἀλλ’ — ἀλλ’ but– ἐν — ἐν in ἁγιασμῷ. — ἁγιασμῷ. sanctification
For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.
8 τοιγαροῦν — τοιγαροῦν therefore ὁ — ὁ the ἀθετῶν, — ἀθετῶν, rejecting οὐκ — οὐκ not ἄνθρωπον — ἄνθρωπον man ἀθετεῖ, — ἀθετεῖ, rejects ἀλλὰ — ἀλλὰ but– τὸν — τὸν the Θεὸν, — Θεὸν, God τὸν — τὸν the καὶ — καὶ also– διδόντα — διδόντα giving τὸ — τὸ the Πνεῦμα — Πνεῦμα Spirit αὐτοῦ — αὐτοῦ of–him τὸ — τὸ the ἅγιον, — ἅγιον, Holy εἰς — εἰς to ὑμᾶς. — ὑμᾶς. you
He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.
9 Περὶ — Περὶ concerning δὲ — δὲ now– τῆς — τῆς the φιλαδελφίας, — φιλαδελφίας, brotherly–love οὐ — οὐ not χρείαν — χρείαν need ἔχετε — ἔχετε you–have γράφειν — γράφειν to–write ὑμῖν, — ὑμῖν, to–you αὐτοὶ — αὐτοὶ yourselves γὰρ — γὰρ for– ὑμεῖς — ὑμεῖς you θεοδίδακτοί — θεοδίδακτοί God–taught ἐστε, — ἐστε, are εἰς — εἰς for τὸ — τὸ the ἀγαπᾶν — ἀγαπᾶν to–love ἀλλήλους. — ἀλλήλους. one–another
But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.
10 καὶ — καὶ and– γὰρ — γὰρ for– ποιεῖτε — ποιεῖτε you–do αὐτὸ — αὐτὸ it εἰς — εἰς toward πάντας — πάντας all τοὺς — τοὺς the ἀδελφοὺς — ἀδελφοὺς brothers ‹τοὺς› — ‹τοὺς› the ἐν — ἐν in ὅλῃ — ὅλῃ whole τῇ — τῇ the Μακεδονίᾳ. — Μακεδονίᾳ. And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more;
11 καὶ — καὶ and– φιλοτιμεῖσθαι — φιλοτιμεῖσθαι to–aspire ἡσυχάζειν — ἡσυχάζειν to–be–quiet καὶ — καὶ and– πράσσειν — πράσσειν to–do τὰ — τὰ the ἴδια, — ἴδια, own καὶ — καὶ and– ἐργάζεσθαι — ἐργάζεσθαι to–work ταῖς — ταῖς with–the [ἰδίαις] — [ἰδίαις] own χερσὶν — χερσὶν hands ὑμῶν, — ὑμῶν, of–you καθὼς — καθὼς just–as ὑμῖν — ὑμῖν you παρηγγείλαμεν, — παρηγγείλαμεν, we–commanded
And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
12 ἵνα — ἵνα that περιπατῆτε — περιπατῆτε you–may–walk εὐσχημόνως — εὐσχημόνως properly πρὸς — πρὸς toward τοὺς — τοὺς the ἔξω, — ἔξω, outside καὶ — καὶ and– μηδενὸς — μηδενὸς of–no–one χρείαν — χρείαν need ἔχητε. — ἔχητε. you–may–have
That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.
13 Οὐ — Οὐ not θέλομεν — θέλομεν we–want δὲ — δὲ and– ὑμᾶς — ὑμᾶς you ἀγνοεῖν, — ἀγνοεῖν, to–be–ignorant ἀδελφοί, — ἀδελφοί, brothers περὶ — περὶ concerning τῶν — τῶν the κοιμωμένων, — κοιμωμένων, having–fallen–asleep ἵνα — ἵνα that μὴ — μὴ not λυπῆσθε, — λυπῆσθε, you–may–grieve καθὼς — καθὼς just–as καὶ — καὶ also– οἱ — οἱ the λοιποὶ, — λοιποὶ, rest οἱ — οἱ the μὴ — μὴ not ἔχοντες — ἔχοντες having ἐλπίδα. — ἐλπίδα. hope
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14 εἰ — εἰ if γὰρ — γὰρ for– πιστεύομεν — πιστεύομεν we–believe ὅτι — ὅτι that Ἰησοῦς — Ἰησοῦς Iēsous ἀπέθανεν — ἀπέθανεν died καὶ — καὶ and– ἀνέστη, — ἀνέστη, rose οὕτως — οὕτως thus καὶ — καὶ also– ὁ — ὁ the Θεὸς, — Θεὸς, God τοὺς — τοὺς the κοιμηθέντας — κοιμηθέντας having–fallen–asleep διὰ — διὰ through τοῦ — τοῦ the Ἰησοῦ, — Ἰησοῦ, Iēsous ἄξει — ἄξει will–bring σὺν — σὺν with αὐτῷ. — αὐτῷ. him
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 Τοῦτο — Τοῦτο this γὰρ — γὰρ for– ὑμῖν — ὑμῖν to–you λέγομεν — λέγομεν we–say ἐν — ἐν in λόγῳ — λόγῳ word Κυρίου, — Κυρίου, of–Lord ὅτι — ὅτι that ἡμεῖς — ἡμεῖς we οἱ — οἱ the ζῶντες — ζῶντες living οἱ — οἱ the περιλειπόμενοι, — περιλειπόμενοι, remaining εἰς — εἰς until τὴν — τὴν the παρουσίαν — παρουσίαν presence τοῦ — τοῦ of–the Κυρίου, — Κυρίου, Lord οὐ — οὐ not μὴ — μὴ not φθάσωμεν — φθάσωμεν will–precede τοὺς — τοὺς the κοιμηθέντας, — κοιμηθέντας, having–fallen–asleep
For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 ὅτι — ὅτι because αὐτὸς — αὐτὸς himself ὁ — ὁ the Κύριος — Κύριος Lord ἐν — ἐν with κελεύσματι, — κελεύσματι, command ἐν — ἐν with φωνῇ — φωνῇ voice ἀρχαγγέλου, — ἀρχαγγέλου, of–archangel καὶ — καὶ and– ἐν — ἐν with σάλπιγγι — σάλπιγγι trumpet Θεοῦ. — Θεοῦ. of–God καταβήσεται — καταβήσεται will–descend ἀπ’ — ἀπ’ from οὐρανοῦ, — οὐρανοῦ, heaven καὶ — καὶ and– οἱ — οἱ the νεκροὶ — νεκροὶ dead ἐν — ἐν in Χριστῷ — Χριστῷ Christos ἀναστήσονται — ἀναστήσονται will–rise πρῶτον. — πρῶτον. first
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 ἔπειτα — ἔπειτα then ἡμεῖς — ἡμεῖς we οἱ — οἱ the ζῶντες — ζῶντες living οἱ — οἱ the περιλειπόμενοι, — περιλειπόμενοι, remaining ἅμα — ἅμα together σὺν — σὺν with αὐτοῖς, — αὐτοῖς, them ἁρπαγησόμεθα — ἁρπαγησόμεθα will–be–caught–up ἐν — ἐν in νεφέλαις — νεφέλαις clouds εἰς — εἰς to ἀπάντησιν — ἀπάντησιν meeting τοῦ — τοῦ of–the Κυρίου — Κυρίου Lord εἰς — εἰς into ἀέρα; — ἀέρα; air καὶ — καὶ and– οὕτως — οὕτως thus πάντοτε — πάντοτε always σὺν — σὺν with Κυρίῳ — Κυρίῳ Lord ἐσόμεθα. — ἐσόμεθα. we–will–be
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Ὥστε — Ὥστε so–that παρακαλεῖτε — παρακαλεῖτε encourage ἀλλήλους — ἀλλήλους one–another ἐν — ἐν with τοῖς — τοῖς the λόγοις — λόγοις words τούτοις. — τούτοις. these
Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
