Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?
2 ἡ — ἡ the– ἐπιστολὴ — ἐπιστολὴ letter ἡμῶν — ἡμῶν of–us ὑμεῖς — ὑμεῖς you ἐστε, — ἐστε, are ἐνγεγραμμένη — ἐνγεγραμμένη having–been–inscribed ἐν — ἐν in ταῖς — ταῖς the– καρδίαις — καρδίαις hearts ἡμῶν, — ἡμῶν, of–us γινωσκομένη — γινωσκομένη being–known καὶ — καὶ and– ἀναγινωσκομένη — ἀναγινωσκομένη being–read ὑπὸ — ὑπὸ by πάντων — πάντων all ἀνθρώπων; — ἀνθρώπων; men
Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
3 φανερούμενοι — φανερούμενοι being–made–manifest ὅτι — ὅτι that ἐστὲ — ἐστὲ you–are ἐπιστολὴ — ἐπιστολὴ letter Χριστοῦ, — Χριστοῦ, of–Christos διακονηθεῖσα — διακονηθεῖσα having–been–ministered ὑφ’ — ὑφ’ by ἡμῶν; — ἡμῶν; us ἐνγεγραμμένη, — ἐνγεγραμμένη, having–been–inscribed οὐ — οὐ not– μέλανι, — μέλανι, with–ink ἀλλὰ — ἀλλὰ but– Πνεύματι — Πνεύματι with–Spirit Θεοῦ — Θεοῦ of–God ζῶντος -- — ζῶντος -- living οὐκ — οὐκ not– ἐν — ἐν on πλαξὶν — πλαξὶν tablets λιθίναις, — λιθίναις, of–stone ἀλλ’ — ἀλλ’ but– ἐν — ἐν on πλαξὶν — πλαξὶν tablets καρδίαις — καρδίαις of–hearts σαρκίναις. — σαρκίναις. of–flesh
Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
4 Πεποίθησιν — Πεποίθησιν Confidence δὲ — δὲ and– τοιαύτην, — τοιαύτην, such ἔχομεν — ἔχομεν we–have διὰ — διὰ through τοῦ — τοῦ the– Χριστοῦ — Χριστοῦ Christos πρὸς — πρὸς toward τὸν — τὸν the– Θεόν. — Θεόν. God
And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:
5 οὐχ — οὐχ not– ὅτι — ὅτι that ἀφ’ — ἀφ’ from ἑαυτῶν — ἑαυτῶν ourselves ἱκανοί — ἱκανοί sufficient ἐσμεν, — ἐσμεν, we–are λογίσασθαί — λογίσασθαί to–reckon τι — τι anything ὡς — ὡς as ἐξ — ἐξ from ἑαυτῶν, — ἑαυτῶν, ourselves ἀλλ’ — ἀλλ’ but– ἡ — ἡ the– ἱκανότης — ἱκανότης sufficiency ἡμῶν — ἡμῶν of–us ἐκ — ἐκ from τοῦ — τοῦ the– Θεοῦ, — Θεοῦ, God
Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
6 ὃς — ὃς who καὶ — καὶ also– ἱκάνωσεν — ἱκάνωσεν made–sufficient ἡμᾶς — ἡμᾶς us διακόνους — διακόνους servants καινῆς — καινῆς of–new διαθήκης; — διαθήκης; covenant οὐ — οὐ not– γράμματος, — γράμματος, of–letter ἀλλὰ — ἀλλὰ but– πνεύματος; — πνεύματος; of–spirit τὸ — τὸ the– γὰρ — γὰρ for– γράμμα — γράμμα letter ἀποκτέννει, — ἀποκτέννει, kills τὸ — τὸ the– δὲ — δὲ but– πνεῦμα — πνεῦμα spirit ζωοποιεῖ. — ζωοποιεῖ. gives–life
Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
7 Εἰ — Εἰ If δὲ — δὲ but– ἡ — ἡ the– διακονία — διακονία ministry τοῦ — τοῦ of–the– θανάτου, — θανάτου, death ἐν — ἐν in γράμμασιν — γράμμασιν letters ἐντετυπωμένη — ἐντετυπωμένη having–been–engraved λίθοις, — λίθοις, on–stones ἐγενήθη — ἐγενήθη came ἐν — ἐν in δόξῃ, — δόξῃ, glory ὥστε — ὥστε so–that μὴ — μὴ not– δύνασθαι — δύνασθαι were–able ἀτενίσαι, — ἀτενίσαι, to–gaze τοὺς — τοὺς the– υἱοὺς — υἱοὺς sons Ἰσραὴλ — Ἰσραὴλ of–Israēl εἰς — εἰς at τὸ — τὸ the– πρόσωπον — πρόσωπον face Μωϋσέως, — Μωϋσέως, of–Mōysēs διὰ — διὰ because–of τὴν — τὴν the– δόξαν — δόξαν glory τοῦ — τοῦ of–the– προσώπου — προσώπου face αὐτοῦ, — αὐτοῦ, of–him τὴν — τὴν the– καταργουμένην; — καταργουμένην; being–abolished
But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
8 πῶς — πῶς how οὐχὶ — οὐχὶ not– μᾶλλον, — μᾶλλον, rather ἡ — ἡ the– διακονία — διακονία ministry τοῦ — τοῦ of–the– πνεύματος — πνεύματος Spirit ἔσται — ἔσται will–be ἐν — ἐν in δόξῃ? — δόξῃ? glory
How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
9 εἰ — εἰ if γὰρ — γὰρ for– τῇ — τῇ to–the– διακονία — διακονία ministry τῆς — τῆς of–the– κατακρίσεως — κατακρίσεως condemnation δόξα, — δόξα, glory πολλῷ — πολλῷ much μᾶλλον — μᾶλλον more περισσεύει — περισσεύει abounds ἡ — ἡ the– διακονία — διακονία ministry τῆς — τῆς of–the– δικαιοσύνης — δικαιοσύνης righteousness δόξῃ. — δόξῃ. in–glory
For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
10 καὶ — καὶ also– γὰρ, — γὰρ, for– οὐ — οὐ not– δεδόξασται — δεδόξασται has–been–glorified τὸ, — τὸ, the– δεδοξασμένον — δεδοξασμένον having–been–glorified ἐν — ἐν in τούτῳ — τούτῳ this τῷ — τῷ the– μέρει, — μέρει, respect εἵνεκεν — εἵνεκεν because–of τῆς — τῆς the– ὑπερβαλλούσης — ὑπερβαλλούσης surpassing δόξης. — δόξης. glory
For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
11 εἰ — εἰ if γὰρ — γὰρ for– τὸ — τὸ the– καταργούμενον — καταργούμενον being–abolished διὰ — διὰ through δόξης, — δόξης, glory πολλῷ — πολλῷ much μᾶλλον, — μᾶλλον, more τὸ — τὸ the– μένον — μένον remaining ἐν — ἐν in δόξῃ. — δόξῃ. glory
For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.
12 Ἔχοντες — Ἔχοντες Having οὖν — οὖν therefore– τοιαύτην — τοιαύτην such ἐλπίδα, — ἐλπίδα, hope πολλῇ — πολλῇ much παρρησίᾳ — παρρησίᾳ boldness χρώμεθα, — χρώμεθα, we–use
Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
13 καὶ — καὶ and– οὐ — οὐ not– καθάπερ — καθάπερ just–as Μωϋσῆς; — Μωϋσῆς; Mōysēs ἐτίθει — ἐτίθει was–putting κάλυμμα — κάλυμμα veil ἐπὶ — ἐπὶ upon τὸ — τὸ the– πρόσωπον — πρόσωπον face αὐτοῦ, — αὐτοῦ, of–him πρὸς — πρὸς for τὸ — τὸ the– μὴ — μὴ not– ἀτενίσαι — ἀτενίσαι to–gaze τοὺς — τοὺς the– υἱοὺς — υἱοὺς sons Ἰσραὴλ, — Ἰσραὴλ, of–Israēl εἰς — εἰς at τὸ — τὸ the– τέλος — τέλος end τοῦ — τοῦ of–the– καταργουμένου. — καταργουμένου. being–abolished
And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
14 ἀλλὰ — ἀλλὰ but– ἐπωρώθη — ἐπωρώθη were–hardened τὰ — τὰ the– νοήματα — νοήματα minds αὐτῶν; — αὐτῶν; of–them ἄχρι — ἄχρι until γὰρ — γὰρ for– τῆς — τῆς the– σήμερον — σήμερον today ἡμέρας, — ἡμέρας, day τὸ — τὸ the– αὐτὸ — αὐτὸ same κάλυμμα — κάλυμμα veil ἐπὶ — ἐπὶ upon τῇ — τῇ the– ἀναγνώσει — ἀναγνώσει reading τῆς — τῆς of–the– παλαιᾶς — παλαιᾶς old διαθήκης — διαθήκης covenant μένει, — μένει, remains μὴ — μὴ not– ἀνακαλυπτόμενον, — ἀνακαλυπτόμενον, being–unveiled ὅτι — ὅτι because ἐν — ἐν in Χριστῷ — Χριστῷ Christos καταργεῖται. — καταργεῖται. it–is–abolished
But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
15 ἀλλ’ — ἀλλ’ but– ἕως — ἕως until σήμερον, — σήμερον, today ἡνίκα — ἡνίκα whenever ἂν — ἂν ever– ἀναγινώσκηται — ἀναγινώσκηται is–read Μωϋσῆς, — Μωϋσῆς, Mōysēs κάλυμμα — κάλυμμα veil ἐπὶ — ἐπὶ upon τὴν — τὴν the– καρδίαν — καρδίαν heart αὐτῶν — αὐτῶν of–them κεῖται. — κεῖται. lies
But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
16 ἡνίκα — ἡνίκα whenever δὲ — δὲ but– ἐὰν — ἐὰν if– ἐπιστρέψῃ — ἐπιστρέψῃ it–turns πρὸς — πρὸς to Κύριον, — Κύριον, Lord περιαιρεῖται — περιαιρεῖται is–taken–away τὸ — τὸ the– κάλυμμα. — κάλυμμα. veil
Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
17 ὁ — ὁ the– δὲ — δὲ now– Κύριος — Κύριος Lord τὸ — τὸ the– Πνεῦμά — Πνεῦμά Spirit ἐστιν; — ἐστιν; is οὗ — οὗ where δὲ — δὲ and– τὸ — τὸ the– Πνεῦμα — Πνεῦμα Spirit Κυρίου, — Κυρίου, of–Lord ἐλευθερία. — ἐλευθερία. freedom
Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18 ἡμεῖς — ἡμεῖς we δὲ — δὲ but– πάντες, — πάντες, all ἀνακεκαλυμμένῳ — ἀνακεκαλυμμένῳ with–unveiled προσώπῳ, — προσώπῳ, face τὴν — τὴν the– δόξαν — δόξαν glory Κυρίου — Κυρίου of–Lord κατοπτριζόμενοι, — κατοπτριζόμενοι, beholding–as–in–a–mirror τὴν — τὴν the– αὐτὴν — αὐτὴν same εἰκόνα — εἰκόνα image μεταμορφούμεθα, — μεταμορφούμεθα, are–being–transformed ἀπὸ — ἀπὸ from δόξης — δόξης glory εἰς — εἰς unto δόξαν, — δόξαν, glory καθάπερ — καθάπερ just–as ἀπὸ — ἀπὸ from Κυρίου, — Κυρίου, Lord Πνεύματος. — Πνεύματος. Spirit
But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
