Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
16 Ὅταν — Ὅταν When δὲ — δὲ and– νηστεύητε, — νηστεύητε, you–fast μὴ — μὴ not– γίνεσθε — γίνεσθε become ὡς — ὡς like– οἱ — οἱ the– ὑποκριταὶ, — ὑποκριταὶ, hypocrites σκυθρωποί; — σκυθρωποί; gloomy ἀφανίζουσιν — ἀφανίζουσιν they–disfigure γὰρ — γὰρ for– τὰ — τὰ the– πρόσωπα — πρόσωπα faces αὐτῶν, — αὐτῶν, of–them ὅπως — ὅπως so–that– φανῶσιν — φανῶσιν they–may–appear τοῖς — τοῖς to–the– ἀνθρώποις — ἀνθρώποις men νηστεύοντες. — νηστεύοντες. fasting ἀμὴν — ἀμὴν truly λέγω — λέγω I–say ὑμῖν, — ὑμῖν, to–you ἀπέχουσιν — ἀπέχουσιν they–have–received τὸν — τὸν the– μισθὸν — μισθὸν reward αὐτῶν. — αὐτῶν. of–them
Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
18 ὅπως — ὅπως so–that– μὴ — μὴ not– φανῇς — φανῇς you–appear τοῖς — τοῖς to–the– ἀνθρώποις — ἀνθρώποις men νηστεύων, — νηστεύων, fasting ἀλλὰ — ἀλλὰ but– τῷ — τῷ to–the– Πατρί — Πατρί Father σου — σου of–you τῷ — τῷ the– ἐν — ἐν in– τῷ — τῷ the– κρυφαίῳ; — κρυφαίῳ; hidden καὶ — καὶ and– ὁ — ὁ the– Πατήρ — Πατήρ Father σου, — σου, of–you ὁ — ὁ the– βλέπων — βλέπων seeing ἐν — ἐν in– τῷ — τῷ the– κρυφαίῳ, — κρυφαίῳ, hidden ἀποδώσει — ἀποδώσει will–reward σοι. — σοι. you
That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
19 Μὴ — Μὴ Not– θησαυρίζετε — θησαυρίζετε store–up ὑμῖν — ὑμῖν for–you θησαυροὺς — θησαυροὺς treasures ἐπὶ — ἐπὶ on– τῆς — τῆς the– γῆς, — γῆς, earth ὅπου — ὅπου where σὴς — σὴς moth καὶ — καὶ and– βρῶσις — βρῶσις decay ἀφανίζει, — ἀφανίζει, destroys καὶ — καὶ and– ὅπου — ὅπου where κλέπται — κλέπται thieves διορύσσουσιν — διορύσσουσιν break–in καὶ — καὶ and– κλέπτουσιν; — κλέπτουσιν; steal
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 θησαυρίζετε — θησαυρίζετε store–up δὲ — δὲ and– ὑμῖν — ὑμῖν for–you θησαυροὺς — θησαυροὺς treasures ἐν — ἐν in– οὐρανῷ, — οὐρανῷ, heaven ὅπου — ὅπου where οὔτε — οὔτε neither– σὴς — σὴς moth οὔτε — οὔτε nor– βρῶσις — βρῶσις decay ἀφανίζει, — ἀφανίζει, destroys καὶ — καὶ and– ὅπου — ὅπου where κλέπται — κλέπται thieves οὐ — οὐ not διορύσσουσιν — διορύσσουσιν break–in οὐδὲ — οὐδὲ nor– κλέπτουσιν. — κλέπτουσιν. steal
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
23 ἐὰν — ἐὰν if δὲ — δὲ but– ὁ — ὁ the– ὀφθαλμός — ὀφθαλμός eye σου — σου of–you πονηρὸς — πονηρὸς evil ᾖ, — ᾖ, is ὅλον — ὅλον whole τὸ — τὸ the– σῶμά — σῶμά body σου — σου of–you σκοτεινὸν — σκοτεινὸν dark ἔσται. — ἔσται. will–be εἰ — εἰ if οὖν — οὖν therefore– τὸ — τὸ the– φῶς — φῶς light τὸ — τὸ the– ἐν — ἐν in– σοὶ — σοὶ you σκότος — σκότος darkness ἐστίν, — ἐστίν, is τὸ — τὸ the– σκότος — σκότος darkness πόσον! — πόσον! how–great
But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 Οὐδεὶς — Οὐδεὶς No–one δύναται — δύναται is–able δυσὶ — δυσὶ two κυρίοις — κυρίοις masters δουλεύειν; — δουλεύειν; to–serve ἢ — ἢ either– γὰρ — γὰρ for– τὸν — τὸν the– ἕνα — ἕνα one μισήσει, — μισήσει, he–will–hate καὶ — καὶ and– τὸν — τὸν the– ἕτερον — ἕτερον other ἀγαπήσει; — ἀγαπήσει; he–will–love ἢ — ἢ or– ἑνὸς — ἑνὸς one ἀνθέξεται, — ἀνθέξεται, he–will–be–devoted–to καὶ — καὶ and– τοῦ — τοῦ the– ἑτέρου — ἑτέρου other καταφρονήσει. — καταφρονήσει. will–despise οὐ — οὐ not δύνασθε — δύνασθε you–are–able Θεῷ — Θεῷ God δουλεύειν, — δουλεύειν, to–serve καὶ — καὶ and– μαμωνᾷ. — μαμωνᾷ. mammon
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 καὶ — καὶ and– περὶ — περὶ about– ἐνδύματος — ἐνδύματος clothing τί — τί why μεριμνᾶτε? — μεριμνᾶτε? are–you–anxious καταμάθετε — καταμάθετε consider τὰ — τὰ the– κρίνα — κρίνα lilies τοῦ — τοῦ of–the– ἀγροῦ, — ἀγροῦ, field πῶς — πῶς how αὐξάνουσιν: — αὐξάνουσιν: they–grow οὐ — οὐ not κοπιῶσιν — κοπιῶσιν they–labor οὐδὲ — οὐδὲ nor– νήθουσιν: — νήθουσιν: do–they–spin
And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 λέγω — λέγω I–say δὲ — δὲ and– ὑμῖν — ὑμῖν to–you ὅτι — ὅτι that οὐδὲ — οὐδὲ not–even– Σολομὼν — Σολομὼν Solomōn ἐν — ἐν in– πάσῃ — πάσῃ all τῇ — τῇ the– δόξῃ — δόξῃ glory αὐτοῦ — αὐτοῦ of–him περιεβάλετο — περιεβάλετο was–clothed ὡς — ὡς like– ἓν — ἓν one τούτων. — τούτων. of–these
And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 εἰ — εἰ if δὲ — δὲ and– τὸν — τὸν the– χόρτον — χόρτον grass τοῦ — τοῦ of–the– ἀγροῦ, — ἀγροῦ, field σήμερον — σήμερον today ὄντα, — ὄντα, being καὶ — καὶ and– αὔριον — αὔριον tomorrow εἰς — εἰς into– κλίβανον — κλίβανον oven βαλλόμενον, — βαλλόμενον, being–thrown ὁ — ὁ the– Θεὸς — Θεὸς God οὕτως — οὕτως thus ἀμφιέννυσιν, — ἀμφιέννυσιν, clothes οὐ — οὐ not πολλῷ — πολλῷ much μᾶλλον — μᾶλλον more ὑμᾶς, — ὑμᾶς, you ὀλιγόπιστοι? — ὀλιγόπιστοι? O–you–of–little–faith
Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 μὴ — μὴ not– οὖν — οὖν therefore– μεριμνήσητε, — μεριμνήσητε, be–anxious λέγοντες, — λέγοντες, saying Τί — Τί What φάγωμεν? — φάγωμεν? shall–we–eat ἤ — ἤ or– Τί — Τί What πίωμεν? — πίωμεν? shall–we–drink ἤ — ἤ or– Τί — Τί What περιβαλώμεθα? — περιβαλώμεθα? shall–we–wear
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 πάντα — πάντα all γὰρ — γὰρ for– ταῦτα — ταῦτα these τὰ — τὰ the– ἔθνη — ἔθνη nations ἐπιζητοῦσιν; — ἐπιζητοῦσιν; seek–after οἶδεν — οἶδεν knows γὰρ — γὰρ for– ὁ — ὁ the– Πατὴρ — Πατὴρ Father ὑμῶν — ὑμῶν of–you ὁ — ὁ the– οὐράνιος — οὐράνιος heavenly ὅτι — ὅτι that χρῄζετε — χρῄζετε you–need τούτων — τούτων of–these ἁπάντων. — ἁπάντων. all
(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 ζητεῖτε — ζητεῖτε seek δὲ — δὲ but– πρῶτον — πρῶτον first τὴν — τὴν the– βασιλείαν — βασιλείαν kingdom [τοῦ — [τοῦ of–the– θεοῦ], — θεοῦ], God καὶ — καὶ and– τὴν — τὴν the– δικαιοσύνην — δικαιοσύνην righteousness αὐτοῦ; — αὐτοῦ; of–him καὶ — καὶ and– ταῦτα — ταῦτα these πάντα — πάντα all προστεθήσεται — προστεθήσεται will–be–added ὑμῖν. — ὑμῖν. to–you
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 μὴ — μὴ not– οὖν — οὖν therefore– μεριμνήσητε — μεριμνήσητε be–anxious εἰς — εἰς for– τὴν — τὴν the– αὔριον, — αὔριον, tomorrow ἡ — ἡ the– γὰρ — γὰρ for– αὔριον — αὔριον tomorrow μεριμνήσει — μεριμνήσει will–be–anxious ἑαυτῆς. — ἑαυτῆς. for–itself ἀρκετὸν — ἀρκετὸν sufficient τῇ — τῇ for–the– ἡμέρᾳ — ἡμέρᾳ day ἡ — ἡ the– κακία — κακία trouble αὐτῆς. — αὐτῆς. of–it
Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
