That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4 καὶ — καὶ and– ταῦτα — ταῦτα these-things γράφομεν — γράφομεν we-write ἡμεῖς, — ἡμεῖς, we ἵνα — ἵνα that ἡ — ἡ the χαρὰ — χαρὰ joy ἡμῶν — ἡμῶν of-us ᾖ — ᾖ may-be πεπληρωμένη. — πεπληρωμένη. fulfilled
And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
5 Καὶ — Καὶ And– ἔστιν — ἔστιν is αὕτη — αὕτη this ἡ — ἡ the ἀγγελία — ἀγγελία message ἣν — ἣν which ἀκηκόαμεν — ἀκηκόαμεν we-have-heard ἀπ’ — ἀπ’ from αὐτοῦ, — αὐτοῦ, Him καὶ — καὶ and– ἀναγγέλλομεν — ἀναγγέλλομεν we-announce ὑμῖν, — ὑμῖν, to-you ὅτι — ὅτι that ὁ — ὁ – Θεὸς — Θεὸς God φῶς — φῶς light ἐστιν, — ἐστιν, is καὶ — καὶ and– σκοτία — σκοτία darkness ἐν — ἐν in αὐτῷ, — αὐτῷ, Him οὐκ — οὐκ not ἔστιν — ἔστιν is οὐδεμία. — οὐδεμία. none
This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6 Ἐὰν — Ἐὰν If εἴπωμεν — εἴπωμεν we-say ὅτι — ὅτι that κοινωνίαν — κοινωνίαν fellowship ἔχομεν — ἔχομεν we-have μετ’ — μετ’ with αὐτοῦ, — αὐτοῦ, Him καὶ — καὶ and– ἐν — ἐν in τῷ — τῷ the σκότει — σκότει darkness περιπατῶμεν, — περιπατῶμεν, we-walk ψευδόμεθα, — ψευδόμεθα, we-lie καὶ — καὶ and– οὐ — οὐ not ποιοῦμεν — ποιοῦμεν we-do τὴν — τὴν the ἀλήθειαν. — ἀλήθειαν. truth
If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 ἐὰν — ἐὰν if δὲ — δὲ but– ἐν — ἐν in τῷ — τῷ the φωτὶ — φωτὶ light περιπατῶμεν, — περιπατῶμεν, we-walk ὡς — ὡς as αὐτός — αὐτός He ἐστιν — ἐστιν is ἐν — ἐν in τῷ — τῷ the φωτί, — φωτί, light κοινωνίαν — κοινωνίαν fellowship ἔχομεν — ἔχομεν we-have μετ’ — μετ’ with ἀλλήλων, — ἀλλήλων, one-another καὶ — καὶ and– τὸ — τὸ the αἷμα — αἷμα blood Ἰησοῦ, — Ἰησοῦ, of-Iēsous τοῦ — τοῦ the Υἱοῦ — Υἱοῦ Son αὐτοῦ, — αὐτοῦ, of-Him καθαρίζει — καθαρίζει cleanses ἡμᾶς — ἡμᾶς us ἀπὸ — ἀπὸ from πάσης — πάσης all ἁμαρτίας. — ἁμαρτίας. sin
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 ἐὰν — ἐὰν if εἴπωμεν — εἴπωμεν we-say ὅτι — ὅτι that ἁμαρτίαν — ἁμαρτίαν sin οὐκ — οὐκ not ἔχομεν, — ἔχομεν, we-have ἑαυτοὺς — ἑαυτοὺς ourselves πλανῶμεν, — πλανῶμεν, we-deceive καὶ — καὶ and– ἡ — ἡ the ἀλήθεια — ἀλήθεια truth οὐκ — οὐκ not ἔστιν — ἔστιν is ἐν — ἐν in ἡμῖν. — ἡμῖν. us
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 ἐὰν — ἐὰν if ὁμολογῶμεν — ὁμολογῶμεν we-confess τὰς — τὰς the ἁμαρτίας — ἁμαρτίας sins ἡμῶν, — ἡμῶν, of-us πιστός — πιστός faithful ἐστιν — ἐστιν He-is καὶ — καὶ and– δίκαιος, — δίκαιος, righteous ἵνα — ἵνα that ἀφῇ — ἀφῇ He-may-forgive ἡμῖν — ἡμῖν us τὰς — τὰς the ἁμαρτίας, — ἁμαρτίας, sins καὶ — καὶ and– καθαρίσῃ — καθαρίσῃ may-cleanse ἡμᾶς — ἡμᾶς us ἀπὸ — ἀπὸ from πάσης — πάσης all ἀδικίας. — ἀδικίας. unrighteousness
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 ἐὰν — ἐὰν if εἴπωμεν — εἴπωμεν we-say ὅτι — ὅτι that οὐχ — οὐχ not ἡμαρτήκαμεν, — ἡμαρτήκαμεν, we-have-sinned ψεύστην — ψεύστην a-liar ποιοῦμεν — ποιοῦμεν we-make αὐτὸν, — αὐτὸν, Him καὶ — καὶ and– ὁ — ὁ the λόγος — λόγος word αὐτοῦ — αὐτοῦ of-Him οὐκ — οὐκ not ἔστιν — ἔστιν is ἐν — ἐν in ἡμῖν. — ἡμῖν. us
If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
