Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
4 μοιχαλίδες! — μοιχαλίδες! Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
5 ἢ — ἢ Or– δοκεῖτε — δοκεῖτε do–you–think ὅτι — ὅτι that– κενῶς — κενῶς in–vain ἡ — ἡ the γραφὴ — γραφὴ Scripture λέγει, — λέγει, says Πρὸς — Πρὸς Toward– φθόνον — φθόνον envy ἐπιποθεῖ — ἐπιποθεῖ yearns τὸ — τὸ the πνεῦμα — πνεῦμα spirit ὃ — ὃ which– κατῴκισεν — κατῴκισεν he–caused–to–dwell ἐν — ἐν in– ἡμῖν? — ἡμῖν? us
Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
6 μείζονα — μείζονα greater δὲ — δὲ but– δίδωσιν — δίδωσιν he–gives χάριν. — χάριν. grace διὸ — διὸ therefore– λέγει, — λέγει, it–says Ὁ — Ὁ – Θεὸς — Θεὸς God ὑπερηφάνοις — ὑπερηφάνοις to–proud ἀντιτάσσεται, — ἀντιτάσσεται, opposes ταπεινοῖς — ταπεινοῖς to–humble δὲ — δὲ but– δίδωσιν — δίδωσιν he–gives χάριν. — χάριν. grace
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
7 ὑποτάγητε — ὑποτάγητε Submit οὖν — οὖν therefore– τῷ — τῷ to–the Θεῷ. — Θεῷ. God ἀντίστητε — ἀντίστητε Resist δὲ — δὲ but– τῷ — τῷ the διαβόλῳ, — διαβόλῳ, devil καὶ — καὶ and– φεύξεται — φεύξεται he–will–flee ἀφ’ — ἀφ’ from– ὑμῶν. — ὑμῶν. you
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 ἐγγίσατε — ἐγγίσατε Draw–near τῷ — τῷ to–the Θεῷ, — Θεῷ, God καὶ — καὶ and– ἐγγιεῖ — ἐγγιεῖ he–will–draw–near ὑμῖν. — ὑμῖν. to–you καθαρίσατε — καθαρίσατε Cleanse χεῖρας, — χεῖρας, hands ἁμαρτωλοί, — ἁμαρτωλοί, sinners καὶ — καὶ and– ἁγνίσατε — ἁγνίσατε purify καρδίας, — καρδίας, hearts δίψυχοι. — δίψυχοι. double–minded
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
9 ταλαιπωρήσατε, — ταλαιπωρήσατε, Be–wretched καὶ — καὶ and– πενθήσατε, — πενθήσατε, mourn καὶ — καὶ and– κλαύσατε. — κλαύσατε. weep ὁ — ὁ the γέλως — γέλως laughter ὑμῶν, — ὑμῶν, of–you εἰς — εἰς into– πένθος — πένθος mourning μετατραπήτω, — μετατραπήτω, let–be–turned καὶ — καὶ and– ἡ — ἡ the χαρὰ, — χαρὰ, joy εἰς — εἰς into– κατήφειαν. — κατήφειαν. gloom
Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
10 ταπεινώθητε — ταπεινώθητε Humble–yourselves ἐνώπιον — ἐνώπιον before– Κυρίου, — Κυρίου, Lord καὶ — καὶ and– ὑψώσει — ὑψώσει he–will–exalt ὑμᾶς. — ὑμᾶς. you
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
11 Μὴ — Μὴ Not– καταλαλεῖτε — καταλαλεῖτε speak–against ἀλλήλων, — ἀλλήλων, one–another ἀδελφοί. — ἀδελφοί. brothers ὁ — ὁ the–one καταλαλῶν — καταλαλῶν speaking–against ἀδελφοῦ, — ἀδελφοῦ, a–brother ἢ — ἢ or– κρίνων — κρίνων judging τὸν — τὸν the ἀδελφὸν — ἀδελφὸν brother αὐτοῦ, — αὐτοῦ, of–him καταλαλεῖ — καταλαλεῖ speaks–against νόμου, — νόμου, law καὶ — καὶ and– κρίνει — κρίνει judges νόμον. — νόμον. law εἰ — εἰ if– δὲ — δὲ but– νόμον — νόμον law κρίνεις, — κρίνεις, you–judge οὐκ — οὐκ not– εἶ — εἶ you–are ποιητὴς — ποιητὴς a–doer νόμου, — νόμου, of–law ἀλλὰ — ἀλλὰ but– κριτής. — κριτής. a–judge
Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
13 Ἄγε — Ἄγε Come–now νῦν, — νῦν, now οἱ — οἱ the–ones λέγοντες, — λέγοντες, saying Σήμερον — Σήμερον Today ἢ — ἢ or– αὔριον, — αὔριον, tomorrow πορευσόμεθα — πορευσόμεθα we–will–go εἰς — εἰς into– τήνδε — τήνδε this τὴν — τὴν the πόλιν, — πόλιν, city καὶ — καὶ and– ποιήσομεν — ποιήσομεν we–will–do ἐκεῖ — ἐκεῖ there ἐνιαυτὸν, — ἐνιαυτὸν, a–year καὶ — καὶ and– ἐμπορευσόμεθα, — ἐμπορευσόμεθα, we–will–trade καὶ — καὶ and– κερδήσομεν -- — κερδήσομεν -- we–will–make–profit
Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
14 οἵτινες — οἵτινες who– οὐκ — οὐκ not– ἐπίστασθε — ἐπίστασθε know ‹τὸ› — ‹τὸ› the τῆς — τῆς of–the αὔριον, — αὔριον, tomorrow ποία — ποία what ἡ — ἡ the ζωὴ — ζωὴ life ὑμῶν? — ὑμῶν? of–you ἀτμὶς — ἀτμὶς a–vapor γάρ — γάρ for– ἐστε, — ἐστε, you–are ἡ — ἡ the–one πρὸς — πρὸς for– ὀλίγον — ὀλίγον a–little φαινομένη, — φαινομένη, appearing ἔπειτα — ἔπειτα then– καὶ — καὶ also– ἀφανιζομένη, — ἀφανιζομένη, disappearing
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
15 ἀντὶ — ἀντὶ instead–of– τοῦ — τοῦ the λέγειν — λέγειν to–say ὑμᾶς, — ὑμᾶς, you Ἐὰν — Ἐὰν If– ὁ — ὁ the Κύριος — Κύριος Lord θελήσῃ, — θελήσῃ, wills καὶ — καὶ also– ζήσομεν, — ζήσομεν, we–will–live καὶ — καὶ and– ποιήσομεν — ποιήσομεν we–will–do τοῦτο — τοῦτο this ἢ — ἢ or– ἐκεῖνο. — ἐκεῖνο. that
For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
16 νῦν — νῦν now δὲ — δὲ but– καυχᾶσθε — καυχᾶσθε you–boast ἐν — ἐν in– ταῖς — ταῖς the ἀλαζονείαις — ἀλαζονείαις arrogance ὑμῶν. — ὑμῶν. of–you πᾶσα — πᾶσα all καύχησις — καύχησις boasting τοιαύτη — τοιαύτη such πονηρά — πονηρά evil ἐστιν. — ἐστιν. is
But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
17 εἰδότι — εἰδότι to–one–knowing οὖν — οὖν therefore– καλὸν — καλὸν good ποιεῖν, — ποιεῖν, to–do καὶ — καὶ and– μὴ — μὴ not– ποιοῦντι, — ποιοῦντι, doing ἁμαρτία — ἁμαρτία sin αὐτῷ — αὐτῷ to–him ἐστιν. — ἐστιν. it–is
Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
