Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.

For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;

That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;

Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
12 Γινώσκειν — Γινώσκειν to–know δὲ — δὲ and– ὑμᾶς, — ὑμᾶς, you βούλομαι, — βούλομαι, I–want ἀδελφοί, — ἀδελφοί, brothers ὅτι — ὅτι that τὰ — τὰ the κατ’ — κατ’ according–to ἐμὲ, — ἐμὲ, me μᾶλλον — μᾶλλον more εἰς — εἰς for προκοπὴν — προκοπὴν advancement τοῦ — τοῦ of–the εὐαγγελίου, — εὐαγγελίου, good–news ἐλήλυθεν; — ἐλήλυθεν; has–come
But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;
13 ὥστε — ὥστε so–that τοὺς — τοὺς the δεσμούς — δεσμούς bonds μου, — μου, of–me φανεροὺς, — φανεροὺς, manifest ἐν — ἐν in Χριστῷ, — Χριστῷ, Christos γενέσθαι — γενέσθαι to–become ἐν — ἐν in ὅλῳ — ὅλῳ whole τῷ — τῷ the πραιτωρίῳ, — πραιτωρίῳ, Praetorium καὶ — καὶ and– τοῖς — τοῖς to–the λοιποῖς — λοιποῖς rest πᾶσιν; — πᾶσιν; all
So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places;

And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.

Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:
16 οἱ — οἱ the μὲν — μὲν indeed ἐξ — ἐξ out–of ἀγάπης, — ἀγάπης, love εἰδότες — εἰδότες knowing ὅτι — ὅτι that εἰς — εἰς for ἀπολογίαν — ἀπολογίαν defense τοῦ — τοῦ of–the εὐαγγελίου — εὐαγγελίου good–news κεῖμαι; — κεῖμαι; I–am–set
The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:
17 οἱ — οἱ the δὲ — δὲ but– ἐξ — ἐξ out–of ἐριθείας — ἐριθείας selfish–ambition τὸν — τὸν the Χριστὸν — Χριστὸν Christos καταγγέλλουσιν, — καταγγέλλουσιν, announce οὐχ — οὐχ not ἁγνῶς, — ἁγνῶς, purely οἰόμενοι — οἰόμενοι supposing θλῖψιν — θλῖψιν affliction ἐγείρειν — ἐγείρειν to–raise τοῖς — τοῖς in–the δεσμοῖς — δεσμοῖς bonds μου. — μου. of–me
But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
18 τί — τί what γάρ? — γάρ? for– πλὴν — πλὴν except ὅτι — ὅτι that παντὶ — παντὶ in–every τρόπῳ, — τρόπῳ, way εἴτε — εἴτε whether προφάσει — προφάσει in–pretense εἴτε — εἴτε whether ἀληθείᾳ, — ἀληθείᾳ, in–truth Χριστὸς — Χριστὸς Christos καταγγέλλεται. — καταγγέλλεται. is–proclaimed καὶ — καὶ and– ἐν — ἐν in τούτῳ — τούτῳ this χαίρω. — χαίρω. I–rejoice ἀλλὰ, — ἀλλὰ, but– καὶ — καὶ also– χαρήσομαι. — χαρήσομαι. I–will–rejoice
What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.
19 οἶδα — οἶδα I–know γὰρ — γὰρ for– ὅτι — ὅτι that τοῦτό — τοῦτό this μοι — μοι to–me ἀποβήσεται — ἀποβήσεται will–turn–out εἰς — εἰς for σωτηρίαν, — σωτηρίαν, salvation διὰ — διὰ through τῆς — τῆς the ὑμῶν — ὑμῶν of–you δεήσεως, — δεήσεως, petition καὶ — καὶ and– ἐπιχορηγίας — ἐπιχορηγίας supply τοῦ — τοῦ of–the Πνεύματος — Πνεύματος Spirit Ἰησοῦ — Ἰησοῦ of–Iēsous Χριστοῦ; — Χριστοῦ; Christos
For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
20 κατὰ — κατὰ according–to τὴν — τὴν the ἀποκαραδοκίαν — ἀποκαραδοκίαν eager–expectation καὶ — καὶ and– ἐλπίδα — ἐλπίδα hope μου, — μου, of–me ὅτι — ὅτι that ἐν — ἐν in οὐδενὶ — οὐδενὶ nothing αἰσχυνθήσομαι, — αἰσχυνθήσομαι, I–will–be–ashamed ἀλλ’ — ἀλλ’ but– ἐν — ἐν in πάσῃ — πάσῃ all παρρησίᾳ, — παρρησίᾳ, boldness ὡς — ὡς as πάντοτε, — πάντοτε, always καὶ — καὶ also– νῦν, — νῦν, now μεγαλυνθήσεται — μεγαλυνθήσεται will–be–magnified Χριστὸς — Χριστὸς Christos ἐν — ἐν in τῷ — τῷ the σώματί — σώματί body μου, — μου, of–me εἴτε — εἴτε whether διὰ — διὰ through ζωῆς — ζωῆς life εἴτε — εἴτε whether διὰ — διὰ through θανάτου. — θανάτου. death
According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.
21 Ἐμοὶ — Ἐμοὶ to–me γὰρ, — γὰρ, for– τὸ — τὸ the ζῆν — ζῆν to–live Χριστὸς, — Χριστὸς, Christos καὶ — καὶ and– τὸ — τὸ the ἀποθανεῖν, — ἀποθανεῖν, to–die κέρδος. — κέρδος. gain
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
22 εἰ — εἰ if δὲ — δὲ but– τὸ — τὸ the ζῆν — ζῆν to–live ἐν — ἐν in σαρκί, — σαρκί, flesh τοῦτό — τοῦτό this μοι — μοι to–me καρπὸς — καρπὸς fruit ἔργου. — ἔργου. of–work καὶ — καὶ and– τί — τί what αἱρήσομαι? — αἱρήσομαι? I–will–choose οὐ — οὐ not γνωρίζω! — γνωρίζω! I–make–known
But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.
23 συνέχομαι — συνέχομαι I–am–pressed δὲ — δὲ but– ἐκ — ἐκ out–of τῶν — τῶν the δύο, — δύο, two τὴν — τὴν the ἐπιθυμίαν — ἐπιθυμίαν desire ἔχων — ἔχων having εἰς — εἰς for– τὸ — τὸ the ἀναλῦσαι, — ἀναλῦσαι, to–depart καὶ — καὶ and– σὺν — σὺν with Χριστῷ — Χριστῷ Christos εἶναι, — εἶναι, to–be πολλῷ — πολλῷ by–much γὰρ — γὰρ for– μᾶλλον — μᾶλλον more κρεῖσσον; — κρεῖσσον; better
For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.
25 καὶ — καὶ and– τοῦτο — τοῦτο this πεποιθὼς, — πεποιθὼς, having–confidence οἶδα — οἶδα I–know ὅτι — ὅτι that μενῶ, — μενῶ, I–will–remain καὶ — καὶ and– παραμενῶ — παραμενῶ I–will–continue–with πᾶσιν — πᾶσιν all ὑμῖν; — ὑμῖν; you εἰς — εἰς for τὴν — τὴν the ὑμῶν — ὑμῶν of–you προκοπὴν — προκοπὴν advancement καὶ — καὶ and– χαρὰν — χαρὰν joy τῆς — τῆς of–the πίστεως; — πίστεως; faith
And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;

That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.
27 Μόνον — Μόνον only ἀξίως — ἀξίως worthily τοῦ — τοῦ of–the εὐαγγελίου — εὐαγγελίου good–news τοῦ — τοῦ of–the Χριστοῦ — Χριστοῦ Christos πολιτεύεσθε, — πολιτεύεσθε, conduct–yourselves ἵνα — ἵνα that εἴτε — εἴτε whether ἐλθὼν — ἐλθὼν having–come καὶ — καὶ and– ἰδὼν — ἰδὼν having–seen ὑμᾶς, — ὑμᾶς, you εἴτε — εἴτε whether ἀπὼν, — ἀπὼν, being–absent ἀκούω — ἀκούω I–hear τὰ — τὰ the περὶ — περὶ concerning ὑμῶν, — ὑμῶν, you ὅτι — ὅτι that στήκετε — στήκετε you–stand–firm ἐν — ἐν in ἑνὶ — ἑνὶ one πνεύματι, — πνεύματι, spirit μιᾷ — μιᾷ with–one ψυχῇ — ψυχῇ soul συναθλοῦντες, — συναθλοῦντες, striving–together τῇ — τῇ in–the πίστει — πίστει faith τοῦ — τοῦ of–the εὐαγγελίου; — εὐαγγελίου; good–news
Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;
28 καὶ — καὶ and– μὴ — μὴ not πτυρόμενοι — πτυρόμενοι being–frightened ἐν — ἐν in μηδενὶ — μηδενὶ nothing ὑπὸ — ὑπὸ by τῶν — τῶν the ἀντικειμένων, — ἀντικειμένων, ones–opposing ἥτις — ἥτις which ἐστὶν — ἐστὶν is αὐτοῖς — αὐτοῖς to–them ἔνδειξις — ἔνδειξις evidence ἀπωλείας; — ἀπωλείας; of–destruction ὑμῶν — ὑμῶν of–you δὲ — δὲ but– σωτηρίας, — σωτηρίας, of–salvation καὶ — καὶ and– τοῦτο — τοῦτο this ἀπὸ — ἀπὸ from Θεοῦ; — Θεοῦ; God
And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.

For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
