For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.

Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about Jordan,
6 καὶ — καὶ and– ἐβαπτίζοντο — ἐβαπτίζοντο were–being–baptized ἐν — ἐν in– τῷ — τῷ the– Ἰορδάνῃ — Ἰορδάνῃ Iordanēs ποταμῷ — ποταμῷ river ὑπ’ — ὑπ’ by– αὐτοῦ, — αὐτοῦ, him ἐξομολογούμενοι — ἐξομολογούμενοι confessing τὰς — τὰς the– ἁμαρτίας — ἁμαρτίας sins αὐτῶν. — αὐτῶν. of–them
And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 ποιήσατε — ποιήσατε produce οὖν — οὖν therefore– καρπὸν — καρπὸν fruit ἄξιον — ἄξιον worthy τῆς — τῆς of–the– μετανοίας. — μετανοίας. repentance
Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
9 καὶ — καὶ and– μὴ — μὴ not– δόξητε — δόξητε presume λέγειν — λέγειν to–say ἐν — ἐν in– ἑαυτοῖς, — ἑαυτοῖς, yourselves Πατέρα — Πατέρα Father ἔχομεν — ἔχομεν we–have τὸν — τὸν the– Ἀβραάμ. — Ἀβραάμ. And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
12 οὗ — οὗ of–whom τὸ — τὸ the– πτύον — πτύον winnowing–fork ἐν — ἐν in– τῇ — τῇ the– χειρὶ — χειρὶ hand αὐτοῦ; — αὐτοῦ; of–him καὶ — καὶ and– διακαθαριεῖ — διακαθαριεῖ he–will–thoroughly–cleanse τὴν — τὴν the– ἅλωνα — ἅλωνα threshing–floor αὐτοῦ, — αὐτοῦ, of–him καὶ — καὶ and– συνάξει — συνάξει will–gather τὸν — τὸν the– σῖτον — σῖτον wheat αὐτοῦ — αὐτοῦ of–him εἰς — εἰς into– τὴν — τὴν the– ἀποθήκην; — ἀποθήκην; barn τὸ — τὸ the– δὲ — δὲ but– ἄχυρον — ἄχυρον chaff κατακαύσει — κατακαύσει will–burn πυρὶ — πυρὶ with–fire ἀσβέστῳ. — ἀσβέστῳ. unquenchable
Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14 ὁ — ὁ the– δὲ — δὲ but– ‹Ἰωάννης› — ‹Ἰωάννης› Iōannēs διεκώλυεν — διεκώλυεν was–preventing αὐτὸν, — αὐτὸν, him λέγων, — λέγων, saying Ἐγὼ — Ἐγὼ I χρείαν — χρείαν need ἔχω — ἔχω have ὑπὸ — ὑπὸ by– σοῦ — σοῦ you βαπτισθῆναι, — βαπτισθῆναι, to–be–baptized καὶ — καὶ and– σὺ — σὺ you ἔρχῃ — ἔρχῃ come πρός — πρός to– με? — με? me
But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15 ἀποκριθεὶς — ἀποκριθεὶς having–answered δὲ, — δὲ, and– ὁ — ὁ the– Ἰησοῦς — Ἰησοῦς Iēsous εἶπεν — εἶπεν said ‹πρὸς› — ‹πρὸς› to– αὐτόν, — αὐτόν, him Ἄφες — Ἄφες Permit ἄρτι; — ἄρτι; now οὕτως — οὕτως thus γὰρ — γὰρ for– πρέπον — πρέπον fitting ἐστὶν — ἐστὶν it–is ἡμῖν — ἡμῖν for–us πληρῶσαι — πληρῶσαι to–fulfill πᾶσαν — πᾶσαν all δικαιοσύνην. — δικαιοσύνην. righteousness τότε — τότε then ἀφίησιν — ἀφίησιν he–permits αὐτόν. — αὐτόν. him
And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
16 βαπτισθεὶς — βαπτισθεὶς having–been–baptized δὲ, — δὲ, and– ὁ — ὁ the– Ἰησοῦς — Ἰησοῦς Iēsous εὐθὺς — εὐθὺς immediately ἀνέβη — ἀνέβη went–up ἀπὸ — ἀπὸ from– τοῦ — τοῦ the– ὕδατος; — ὕδατος; water καὶ — καὶ and– ἰδοὺ, — ἰδοὺ, behold ἠνεῴχθησαν — ἠνεῴχθησαν were–opened [αὐτῷ] — [αὐτῷ] to–him οἱ — οἱ the– οὐρανοί, — οὐρανοί, heavens καὶ — καὶ and– εἶδεν — εἶδεν he–saw [τὸ] — [τὸ] the– Πνεῦμα — Πνεῦμα Spirit [τοῦ] — [τοῦ] of–the– Θεοῦ — Θεοῦ God καταβαῖνον — καταβαῖνον descending ὡσεὶ — ὡσεὶ like– περιστερὰν, — περιστερὰν, dove [καὶ] — [καὶ] and– ἐρχόμενον — ἐρχόμενον coming ἐπ’ — ἐπ’ upon– αὐτόν. — αὐτόν. him
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 καὶ — καὶ and– ἰδοὺ, — ἰδοὺ, behold φωνὴ — φωνὴ voice ἐκ — ἐκ out–of– τῶν — τῶν the– οὐρανῶν, — οὐρανῶν, heavens λέγουσα, — λέγουσα, saying Οὗτός — Οὗτός This ἐστιν — ἐστιν is ὁ — ὁ the– Υἱός — Υἱός Son μου, — μου, of–me ὁ — ὁ the– ἀγαπητός, — ἀγαπητός, beloved ἐν — ἐν in– ᾧ — ᾧ whom εὐδόκησα. — εὐδόκησα. I–was–pleased
And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
