And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
2 בֶּן־ — בֶּן־ son-of– אָדָ֕ם — אָדָ֕ם man מַה־ — מַה־ what– יִּֽהְיֶ֥ה — יִּֽהְיֶ֥ה shall–be עֵץ־ — עֵץ־ wood-of– הַגֶּ֖פֶן — הַגֶּ֖פֶן the–vine מִכָּל־ — מִכָּל־ from–all– עֵ֑ץ — עֵ֑ץ wood הַזְּמוֹרָ֕ה — הַזְּמוֹרָ֕ה the–branch אֲשֶׁ֥ר — אֲשֶׁ֥ר which הָיָ֖ה — הָיָ֖ה is בַּעֲצֵ֥י — בַּעֲצֵ֥י among–trees-of הַיָּֽעַר׃ — הַיָּֽעַר׃ the–forest
Son of man, What is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest?
3 הֲיֻקַּ֤ח — הֲיֻקַּ֤ח is–taken מִמֶּ֙נּוּ֙ — מִמֶּ֙נּוּ֙ from–it עֵ֔ץ — עֵ֔ץ wood לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת — לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת to–make לִמְלָאכָ֑ה — לִמְלָאכָ֑ה for–work אִם־ — אִם־ if– יִקְח֤וּ — יִקְח֤וּ they–take מִמֶּ֙נּוּ֙ — מִמֶּ֙נּוּ֙ from–it יָתֵ֔ד — יָתֵ֔ד a–peg לִתְל֥וֹת — לִתְל֥וֹת to–hang עָלָ֖יו — עָלָ֖יו upon–it כָּל־ — כָּל־ any– כֶּֽלִי׃ — כֶּֽלִי׃ vessel
Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?
4 הִנֵּ֥ה — הִנֵּ֥ה behold לָאֵ֖שׁ — לָאֵ֖שׁ to–the–fire נִתַּ֣ן — נִתַּ֣ן is–given לְאָכְלָ֑ה — לְאָכְלָ֑ה for–consuming אֵת֩ — אֵת֩ – שְׁנֵ֨י — שְׁנֵ֨י two-of קְצוֹתָ֜יו — קְצוֹתָ֜יו ends–its אָכְלָ֤ה — אָכְלָ֤ה consumes הָאֵשׁ֙ — הָאֵשׁ֙ the–fire וְתוֹכ֣וֹ — וְתוֹכ֣וֹ and–middle–its נָחָ֔ר — נָחָ֔ר is–charred הֲיִצְלַ֖ח — הֲיִצְלַ֖ח is–it-fit לִמְלָאכָֽה׃ — לִמְלָאכָֽה׃ for–work
Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire devoureth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned. Is it meet for any work?
5 הִנֵּה֙ — הִנֵּה֙ behold בִּֽהְיוֹת֣וֹ — בִּֽהְיוֹת֣וֹ when–it–was תָמִ֔ים — תָמִ֔ים whole לֹ֥א — לֹ֥א not יֵֽעָשֶׂ֖ה — יֵֽעָשֶׂ֖ה was–it-made לִמְלָאכָ֑ה — לִמְלָאכָ֑ה for–work אַ֣ף — אַ֣ף how-much-more כִּי־ — כִּי־ when– אֵ֤שׁ — אֵ֤שׁ fire אֲכָלַ֙תְהוּ֙ — אֲכָלַ֙תְהוּ֙ has–consumed–it וַיֵּחָ֔ר — וַיֵּחָ֔ר and–it-is-charred וְנַעֲשָׂ֥ה — וְנַעֲשָׂ֥ה and–is-it-made ע֖וֹד — ע֖וֹד still לִמְלָאכָֽה׃ — לִמְלָאכָֽה׃ for–work ס — ס —
Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less shall it be meet yet for any work, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is burned?
6 לָכֵ֗ן — לָכֵ֗ן therefore כֹּ֤ה — כֹּ֤ה thus אָמַר֙ — אָמַר֙ says אֲדֹנָ֣י — אֲדֹנָ֣י Lord יְהוִ֔ה — יְהוִ֔ה YHWH כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר — כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר as עֵץ־ — עֵץ־ wood-of– הַגֶּ֙פֶן֙ — הַגֶּ֙פֶן֙ the–vine בְּעֵ֣ץ — בְּעֵ֣ץ among–wood-of הַיַּ֔עַר — הַיַּ֔עַר the–forest אֲשֶׁר־ — אֲשֶׁר־ which– נְתַתִּ֥יו — נְתַתִּ֥יו I–have-given–it לָאֵ֖שׁ — לָאֵ֖שׁ to–the–fire לְאָכְלָ֑ה — לְאָכְלָ֑ה for–consuming כֵּ֣ן — כֵּ֣ן so נָתַ֔תִּי — נָתַ֔תִּי I–have-given אֶת־ — אֶת־ – יֹשְׁבֵ֖י — יֹשְׁבֵ֖י inhabitants-of יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ — יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ Jerusalem
Therefore thus saith the Lord God; As the vine tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
7 וְנָתַתִּ֤י — וְנָתַתִּ֤י and–I-will-set אֶת־ — אֶת־ – פָּנַי֙ — פָּנַי֙ face–my בָּהֶ֔ם — בָּהֶ֔ם against–them מֵהָאֵ֣שׁ — מֵהָאֵ֣שׁ from–the–fire יָצָ֔אוּ — יָצָ֔אוּ they–went-out וְהָאֵ֖שׁ — וְהָאֵ֖שׁ and–the–fire תֹּֽאכְלֵ֑ם — תֹּֽאכְלֵ֑ם will–consume–them וִֽידַעְתֶּם֙ — וִֽידַעְתֶּם֙ and–you-shall-know כִּֽי־ — כִּֽי־ that– אֲנִ֣י — אֲנִ֣י I יְהוָ֔ה — יְהוָ֔ה YHWH בְּשׂוּמִ֥י — בְּשׂוּמִ֥י when–I-set אֶת־ — אֶת־ – פָּנַ֖י — פָּנַ֖י face–my בָּהֶֽם׃ — בָּהֶֽם׃ against–them
And I will set my face against them; they shall go out from one fire, and another fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I set my face against them.
8 וְנָתַתִּ֥י — וְנָתַתִּ֥י and–I-will-make אֶת־ — אֶת־ – הָאָ֖רֶץ — הָאָ֖רֶץ the–land שְׁמָמָ֑ה — שְׁמָמָ֑ה a–desolation יַ֚עַן — יַ֚עַן because מָ֣עֲלוּ — מָ֣עֲלוּ they–trespassed מַ֔עַל — מַ֔עַל a–trespass נְאֻ֖ם — נְאֻ֖ם declares אֲדֹנָ֥י — אֲדֹנָ֥י Lord יְהוִֽה׃ — יְהוִֽה׃ YHWH פ — פ —
And I will make the land desolate, because they have committed a trespass, saith the Lord God.
