The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,
2 כֹּֽה־ — כֹּֽה־ thus– אָמַ֥ר — אָמַ֥ר says יְהוָ֖ה — יְהוָ֖ה YHWH אֱלֹהֵ֣י — אֱלֹהֵ֣י God-of יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל — יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Yisrael עָלֶ֖יךָ — עָלֶ֖יךָ concerning–you בָּרֽוּךְ׃ — בָּרֽוּךְ׃ Barukh
Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, unto thee, O Baruch;
3 אָמַ֙רְתָּ֙ — אָמַ֙רְתָּ֙ you–said אֽוֹי־ — אֽוֹי־ woe– נָ֣א — נָ֣א now לִ֔י — לִ֔י to–me כִּֽי־ — כִּֽי־ for– יָסַ֧ף — יָסַ֧ף has–added יְהוָ֛ה — יְהוָ֛ה YHWH יָג֖וֹן — יָג֖וֹן sorrow עַל־ — עַל־ upon– מַכְאֹבִ֑י — מַכְאֹבִ֑י my–pain יָגַ֙עְתִּי֙ — יָגַ֙עְתִּי֙ I–am–weary בְּאַנְחָתִ֔י — בְּאַנְחָתִ֔י with–my–groaning וּמְנוּחָ֖ה — וּמְנוּחָ֖ה and–rest לֹ֥א — לֹ֥א not מָצָֽאתִי׃ — מָצָֽאתִי׃ I–have–found ס — ס [section-end]
Thou didst say, Woe is me now! for the Lord hath added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest.
4 כֹּ֣ה ׀ — כֹּ֣ה ׀ thus תֹּאמַ֣ר — תֹּאמַ֣ר you–shall–say אֵלָ֗יו — אֵלָ֗יו to–him כֹּ֚ה — כֹּ֚ה thus אָמַ֣ר — אָמַ֣ר says יְהוָ֔ה — יְהוָ֔ה YHWH הִנֵּ֤ה — הִנֵּ֤ה behold אֲשֶׁר־ — אֲשֶׁר־ that–which– בָּנִ֙יתִי֙ — בָּנִ֙יתִי֙ I–built אֲנִ֣י — אֲנִ֣י I הֹרֵ֔ס — הֹרֵ֔ס am–tearing–down וְאֵ֥ת — וְאֵ֥ת and–[obj] אֲשֶׁר־ — אֲשֶׁר־ that–which– נָטַ֖עְתִּי — נָטַ֖עְתִּי I–planted אֲנִ֣י — אֲנִ֣י I נֹתֵ֑שׁ — נֹתֵ֑שׁ am–uprooting וְאֶת־ — וְאֶת־ and–[obj]– כָּל־ — כָּל־ all– הָאָ֖רֶץ — הָאָ֖רֶץ the–land הִֽיא׃ — הִֽיא׃ it
Thus shalt thou say unto him, The Lord saith thus; Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up, even this whole land.
5 וְאַתָּ֛ה — וְאַתָּ֛ה and–you תְּבַקֶּשׁ־ — תְּבַקֶּשׁ־ seek– לְךָ֥ — לְךָ֥ for–yourself גְדֹל֖וֹת — גְדֹל֖וֹת great–things אַל־ — אַל־ do–not– תְּבַקֵּ֑שׁ — תְּבַקֵּ֑שׁ seek כִּ֡י — כִּ֡י for הִנְנִי֩ — הִנְנִי֩ behold–me מֵבִ֨יא — מֵבִ֨יא bringing רָעָ֤ה — רָעָ֤ה evil עַל־ — עַל־ upon– כָּל־ — כָּל־ all– בָּשָׂר֙ — בָּשָׂר֙ flesh נְאֻם־ — נְאֻם־ utterance-of– יְהוָ֔ה — יְהוָ֔ה YHWH וְנָתַתִּ֨י — וְנָתַתִּ֨י but–I–will–give לְךָ֤ — לְךָ֤ to–you אֶֽת־ — אֶֽת־ [obj]– נַפְשְׁךָ֙ — נַפְשְׁךָ֙ your–life לְשָׁלָ֔ל — לְשָׁלָ֔ל as–spoil עַ֥ל — עַ֥ל in כָּל־ — כָּל־ every– הַמְּקֹמ֖וֹת — הַמְּקֹמ֖וֹת the–place אֲשֶׁ֥ר — אֲשֶׁ֥ר where תֵּֽלֶךְ־ — תֵּֽלֶךְ־ you–go– שָֽׁם׃ — שָֽׁם׃ there ס — ס [section-end]
And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the Lord: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.
