Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.
2 תֶּן־ — תֶּן־ give חֵ֥לֶק — חֵ֥לֶק a–portion לְשִׁבְעָ֖ה — לְשִׁבְעָ֖ה to–seven וְגַ֣ם — וְגַ֣ם and–also לִשְׁמוֹנָ֑ה — לִשְׁמוֹנָ֑ה to–eight כִּ֚י — כִּ֚י for לֹ֣א — לֹ֣א not תֵדַ֔ע — תֵדַ֔ע you–know מַה־ — מַה־ what יִּהְיֶ֥ה — יִּהְיֶ֥ה will–be רָעָ֖ה — רָעָ֖ה evil עַל־ — עַל־ upon הָאָֽרֶץ׃ — הָאָֽרֶץ׃ the–earth
Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.
3 אִם־ — אִם־ if יִמָּלְא֨וּ — יִמָּלְא֨וּ are–full הֶעָבִ֥ים — הֶעָבִ֥ים the–clouds גֶּ֙שֶׁם֙ — גֶּ֙שֶׁם֙ of–rain עַל־ — עַל־ upon הָאָ֣רֶץ — הָאָ֣רֶץ the–earth יָרִ֔יקוּ — יָרִ֔יקוּ they–pour–out וְאִם־ — וְאִם־ and–if יִפּ֥וֹל — יִפּ֥וֹל falls עֵ֛ץ — עֵ֛ץ a–tree בַּדָּר֖וֹם — בַּדָּר֖וֹם in–the–south וְאִ֣ם — וְאִ֣ם or–if בַּצָּפ֑וֹן — בַּצָּפ֑וֹן in–the–north מְק֛וֹם — מְק֛וֹם the–place שֶׁיִּפּ֥וֹל — שֶׁיִּפּ֥וֹל where–falls הָעֵ֖ץ — הָעֵ֖ץ the–tree שָׁ֥ם — שָׁ֥ם there יְהֽוּא׃ — יְהֽוּא׃ it–will–be
If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.
4 שֹׁמֵ֥ר — שֹׁמֵ֥ר he–who–watches ר֖וּחַ — ר֖וּחַ the–wind לֹ֣א — לֹ֣א not יִזְרָ֑ע — יִזְרָ֑ע will–sow וְרֹאֶ֥ה — וְרֹאֶ֥ה and–he–who–looks בֶעָבִ֖ים — בֶעָבִ֖ים at–the–clouds לֹ֥א — לֹ֥א not יִקְצֽוֹר׃ — יִקְצֽוֹר׃ will–reap
He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.
5 כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר — כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר just–as אֵֽינְךָ֤ — אֵֽינְךָ֤ you–do–not יוֹדֵ֙עַ֙ — יוֹדֵ֙עַ֙ know מַה־ — מַה־ what דֶּ֣רֶךְ — דֶּ֣רֶךְ is–the–way–of הָר֔וּחַ — הָר֔וּחַ the–spirit כַּעֲצָמִ֖ים — כַּעֲצָמִ֖ים like–the–bones בְּבֶ֣טֶן — בְּבֶ֣טֶן in–the–womb–of הַמְּלֵאָ֑ה — הַמְּלֵאָ֑ה the–pregnant–woman כָּ֗כָה — כָּ֗כָה so לֹ֤א — לֹ֤א not תֵדַע֙ — תֵדַע֙ you–will–know אֶת־ — אֶת־ [obj] מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה — מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה the–work–of הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים — הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים the–Elohim אֲשֶׁ֥ר — אֲשֶׁ֥ר who יַעֲשֶׂ֖ה — יַעֲשֶׂ֖ה makes אֶת־ — אֶת־ [obj] הַכֹּֽל׃ — הַכֹּֽל׃ everything
As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.
6 בַּבֹּ֙קֶר֙ — בַּבֹּ֙קֶר֙ in–the–morning זְרַ֣ע — זְרַ֣ע sow אֶת־ — אֶת־ [obj] זַרְעֶ֔ךָ — זַרְעֶ֔ךָ your–seed וְלָעֶ֖רֶב — וְלָעֶ֖רֶב and–at–evening אַל־ — אַל־ do–not תַּנַּ֣ח — תַּנַּ֣ח rest יָדֶ֑ךָ — יָדֶ֑ךָ your–hand כִּי֩ — כִּי֩ for אֵֽינְךָ֨ — אֵֽינְךָ֨ you–do–not יוֹדֵ֜ע — יוֹדֵ֜ע know אֵ֣י — אֵ֣י which זֶ֤ה — זֶ֤ה this יִכְשָׁר֙ — יִכְשָׁר֙ will–prosper הֲזֶ֣ה — הֲזֶ֣ה this אוֹ־ — אוֹ־ or זֶ֔ה — זֶ֔ה that וְאִם־ — וְאִם־ or–if שְׁנֵיהֶ֥ם — שְׁנֵיהֶ֥ם both–of–them כְּאֶחָ֖ד — כְּאֶחָ֖ד as–one טוֹבִֽים׃ — טוֹבִֽים׃ good
In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.
7 וּמָת֖וֹק — וּמָת֖וֹק and–sweet הָא֑וֹר — הָא֑וֹר is–the–light וְט֥וֹב — וְט֥וֹב and–good לַֽעֵינַ֖יִם — לַֽעֵינַ֖יִם for–the–eyes לִרְא֥וֹת — לִרְא֥וֹת to–see אֶת־ — אֶת־ [obj] הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ — הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ the–sun
Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:
8 כִּ֣י — כִּ֣י for אִם־ — אִם־ if שָׁנִ֥ים — שָׁנִ֥ים years הַרְבֵּ֛ה — הַרְבֵּ֛ה many יִחְיֶ֥ה — יִחְיֶ֥ה lives הָאָדָ֖ם — הָאָדָ֖ם the–man בְּכֻלָּ֣ם — בְּכֻלָּ֣ם in–all–of–them יִשְׂמָ֑ח — יִשְׂמָ֑ח let–him–rejoice וְיִזְכֹּר֙ — וְיִזְכֹּר֙ and–let–him–remember אֶת־ — אֶת־ [obj] יְמֵ֣י — יְמֵ֣י the–days–of הַחֹ֔שֶׁךְ — הַחֹ֔שֶׁךְ the–darkness כִּֽי־ — כִּֽי־ for הַרְבֵּ֥ה — הַרְבֵּ֥ה many יִהְי֖וּ — יִהְי֖וּ they–will–be כָּל־ — כָּל־ all שֶׁבָּ֥א — שֶׁבָּ֥א that–comes הָֽבֶל׃ — הָֽבֶל׃ is–vanity
But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.
9 שְׂמַ֧ח — שְׂמַ֧ח rejoice בָּח֣וּר — בָּח֣וּר O–young–man בְּיַלְדוּתֶ֗יךָ — בְּיַלְדוּתֶ֗יךָ in–your–youth וִֽיטִֽיבְךָ֤ — וִֽיטִֽיבְךָ֤ and–let–cheer–you לִבְּךָ֙ — לִבְּךָ֙ your–heart בִּימֵ֣י — בִּימֵ֣י in–the–days–of בְחוּרוֹתֶ֔ךָ — בְחוּרוֹתֶ֔ךָ your–young–manhood וְהַלֵּךְ֙ — וְהַלֵּךְ֙ and–walk בְּדַרְכֵ֣י — בְּדַרְכֵ֣י in–the–ways–of לִבְּךָ֔ — לִבְּךָ֔ your–heart וּבְמַרְאֵ֖י — וּבְמַרְאֵ֖י and–in–the–sight–of עֵינֶ֑יךָ — עֵינֶ֑יךָ your–eyes וְדָ֕ע — וְדָ֕ע but–know כִּ֧י — כִּ֧י that עַל־ — עַל־ for כָּל־ — כָּל־ all אֵ֛לֶּה — אֵ֛לֶּה these יְבִֽיאֲךָ֥ — יְבִֽיאֲךָ֥ will–bring–you הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים — הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים the–Elohim בַּמִּשְׁפָּֽט׃ — בַּמִּשְׁפָּֽט׃ into–judgment
Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.
10 וְהָסֵ֥ר — וְהָסֵ֥ר and–remove כַּ֙עַס֙ — כַּ֙עַס֙ vexation מִלִּבֶּ֔ךָ — מִלִּבֶּ֔ךָ from–your–heart וְהַעֲבֵ֥ר — וְהַעֲבֵ֥ר and–put–away רָעָ֖ה — רָעָ֖ה evil מִבְּשָׂרֶ֑ךָ — מִבְּשָׂרֶ֑ךָ from–your–flesh כִּֽי־ — כִּֽי־ for הַיַּלְד֥וּת — הַיַּלְד֥וּת the–youth וְהַֽשַּׁחֲר֖וּת — וְהַֽשַּׁחֲר֖וּת and–the–dawn הָֽבֶל׃ — הָֽבֶל׃ are–vanity
Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.
