By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.
2 עַֽל־ — עַֽל־ upon עֲרָבִ֥ים — עֲרָבִ֥ים willows בְּתוֹכָ֑הּ — בְּתוֹכָ֑הּ in–her–midst תָּ֝לִ֗ינוּ — תָּ֝לִ֗ינוּ we–hung כִּנֹּרוֹתֵֽינוּ׃ — כִּנֹּרוֹתֵֽינוּ׃ our–lyres
We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.
3 כִּ֤י — כִּ֤י for שָׁ֨ם — שָׁ֨ם there שְֽׁאֵל֪וּנוּ — שְֽׁאֵל֪וּנוּ asked–us שׁוֹבֵ֡ינוּ — שׁוֹבֵ֡ינוּ our–captors דִּבְרֵי־ — דִּבְרֵי־ words-of שִׁ֭יר — שִׁ֭יר a–song וְתוֹלָלֵ֣ינוּ — וְתוֹלָלֵ֣ינוּ and–our–tormentors שִׂמְחָ֑ה — שִׂמְחָ֑ה joy שִׁ֥ירוּ — שִׁ֥ירוּ sing לָ֝֗נוּ — לָ֝֗נוּ to–us מִשִּׁ֥יר — מִשִּׁ֥יר from–song-of צִיּֽוֹן׃ — צִיּֽוֹן׃ Tsiyyon
For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
4 אֵ֗יךְ — אֵ֗יךְ how נָשִׁ֥יר — נָשִׁ֥יר can–we–sing אֶת־ — אֶת־ [obj] שִׁיר־ — שִׁיר־ song-of יְהוָ֑ה — יְהוָ֑ה YHWH עַ֝֗ל — עַ֝֗ל upon אַדְמַ֥ת — אַדְמַ֥ת land-of נֵכָֽר׃ — נֵכָֽר׃ foreignness
How shall we sing the Lord’s song in a strange land?
5 אִֽם־ — אִֽם־ if אֶשְׁכָּחֵ֥ךְ — אֶשְׁכָּחֵ֥ךְ I–forget–you יְֽרוּשָׁלִָ֗ם — יְֽרוּשָׁלִָ֗ם Yerushalayim תִּשְׁכַּ֥ח — תִּשְׁכַּ֥ח let–forget יְמִינִֽי׃ — יְמִינִֽי׃ my–right-hand
If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.
6 תִּדְבַּ֥ק־ — תִּדְבַּ֥ק־ let–cling לְשׁוֹנִ֨י ׀ — לְשׁוֹנִ֨י ׀ my–tongue לְחִכִּי֮ — לְחִכִּי֮ to–my–palate אִם־ — אִם־ if לֹ֪א — לֹ֪א not אֶ֫זְכְּרֵ֥כִי — אֶ֫זְכְּרֵ֥כִי I–remember–you אִם־ — אִם־ if לֹ֣א — לֹ֣א not אַ֭עֲלֶה — אַ֭עֲלֶה I–raise אֶת־ — אֶת־ [obj] יְרוּשָׁלִַ֑ם — יְרוּשָׁלִַ֑ם Yerushalayim עַ֝֗ל — עַ֝֗ל above רֹ֣אשׁ — רֹ֣אשׁ head-of שִׂמְחָתִֽי׃ — שִׂמְחָתִֽי׃ my–joy
If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.
7 זְכֹ֤ר — זְכֹ֤ר remember יְהוָ֨ה ׀ — יְהוָ֨ה ׀ YHWH לִבְנֵ֬י — לִבְנֵ֬י for–sons-of אֱד֗וֹם — אֱד֗וֹם Edom אֵת֮ — אֵת֮ [obj] י֤וֹם — י֤וֹם day-of יְֽרוּשָׁ֫לִָ֥ם — יְֽרוּשָׁ֫לִָ֥ם Yerushalayim הָ֭אֹ֣מְרִים — הָ֭אֹ֣מְרִים the–ones–saying עָ֤רוּ ׀ — עָ֤רוּ ׀ lay-bare עָ֑רוּ — עָ֑רוּ lay-bare עַ֝֗ד — עַ֝֗ד unto הַיְס֥וֹד — הַיְס֥וֹד the–foundation בָּֽהּ׃ — בָּֽהּ׃ in–her
Remember, O Lord, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.
8 בַּת־ — בַּת־ daughter-of בָּבֶ֗ל — בָּבֶ֗ל Bavel הַשְּׁד֫וּדָ֥ה — הַשְּׁד֫וּדָ֥ה the–devastated אַשְׁרֵ֥י — אַשְׁרֵ֥י blessed-is שֶׁיְשַׁלֶּם־ — שֶׁיְשַׁלֶּם־ who–repays לָ֑ךְ — לָ֑ךְ to–you אֶת־ — אֶת־ [obj] גְּ֝מוּלֵ֗ךְ — גְּ֝מוּלֵ֗ךְ your–recompense שֶׁגָּמַ֥לְתְּ — שֶׁגָּמַ֥לְתְּ that–you–dealt לָֽנוּ׃ — לָֽנוּ׃ to–us
O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.
9 אַשְׁרֵ֤י ׀ — אַשְׁרֵ֤י ׀ blessed-is שֶׁיֹּאחֵ֓ז — שֶׁיֹּאחֵ֓ז who–seizes וְנִפֵּ֬ץ — וְנִפֵּ֬ץ and–dashes אֶֽת־ — אֶֽת־ [obj] עֹ֝לָלַ֗יִךְ — עֹ֝לָלַ֗יִךְ your–little-ones אֶל־ — אֶל־ against הַסָּֽלַע׃ — הַסָּֽלַע׃ the–rock
Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.
