Now after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and her towns out of the hand of the Philistines.
2 וַיַּ֖ךְ — וַיַּ֖ךְ and–struck אֶת־ — אֶת־ [obj] מוֹאָ֑ב — מוֹאָ֑ב Moab וַיִּהְי֤וּ — וַיִּהְי֤וּ and–became מוֹאָב֙ — מוֹאָב֙ Moab עֲבָדִ֣ים — עֲבָדִ֣ים servants לְדָוִ֔יד — לְדָוִ֔יד to–David נֹשְׂאֵ֖י — נֹשְׂאֵ֖י bearing מִנְחָֽה׃ — מִנְחָֽה׃ tribute
And he smote Moab; and the Moabites became David’s servants, and brought gifts.
3 וַיַּ֥ךְ — וַיַּ֥ךְ and–struck דָּוִ֛יד — דָּוִ֛יד David אֶת־ — אֶת־ [obj] הֲדַדְעֶ֥זֶר — הֲדַדְעֶ֥זֶר Hadadezer מֶֽלֶךְ־ — מֶֽלֶךְ־ king-of צוֹבָ֖ה — צוֹבָ֖ה Zobah חֲמָ֑תָה — חֲמָ֑תָה Hamath-ward בְּלֶכְתּ֕וֹ — בְּלֶכְתּ֕וֹ when–he-went לְהַצִּ֥יב — לְהַצִּ֥יב to–establish יָד֖וֹ — יָד֖וֹ his-hand בִּֽנְהַר־ — בִּֽנְהַר־ at–river-of פְּרָֽת׃ — פְּרָֽת׃ Euphrates
And David smote Hadarezer king of Zobah unto Hamath, as he went to stablish his dominion by the river Euphrates.
4 וַיִּלְכֹּד֩ — וַיִּלְכֹּד֩ and–captured דָּוִ֨יד — דָּוִ֨יד David מִמֶּ֜נּוּ — מִמֶּ֜נּוּ from-him אֶ֣לֶף — אֶ֣לֶף thousand רֶ֗כֶב — רֶ֗כֶב chariots וְשִׁבְעַ֤ת — וְשִׁבְעַ֤ת and–seven אֲלָפִים֙ — אֲלָפִים֙ thousands פָּֽרָשִׁ֔ים — פָּֽרָשִׁ֔ים horsemen וְעֶשְׂרִ֥ים — וְעֶשְׂרִ֥ים and–twenty אֶ֖לֶף — אֶ֖לֶף thousand אִ֣ישׁ — אִ֣ישׁ men רַגְלִ֑י — רַגְלִ֑י foot-soldiers וַיְעַקֵּ֤ר — וַיְעַקֵּ֤ר and–hamstrung דָּוִיד֙ — דָּוִיד֙ David אֶת־ — אֶת־ [obj] כָּל־ — כָּל־ all הָרֶ֔כֶב — הָרֶ֔כֶב the–chariots וַיּוֹתֵ֥ר — וַיּוֹתֵ֥ר and–reserved מִמֶּ֖נּוּ — מִמֶּ֖נּוּ from-them מֵ֥אָה — מֵ֥אָה hundred רָֽכֶב׃ — רָֽכֶב׃ chariots
And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: David also houghed all the chariot horses, but reserved of them an hundred chariots.
5 וַיָּבֹא֙ — וַיָּבֹא֙ and–came אֲרַ֣ם — אֲרַ֣ם Aram דַּרְמֶ֔שֶׂק — דַּרְמֶ֔שֶׂק Damascus לַעְז֕וֹר — לַעְז֕וֹר to–help לַהֲדַדְעֶ֖זֶר — לַהֲדַדְעֶ֖זֶר Hadadezer מֶ֣לֶךְ — מֶ֣לֶךְ king-of צוֹבָ֑ה — צוֹבָ֑ה Zobah וַיַּ֤ךְ — וַיַּ֤ךְ and–struck דָּוִיד֙ — דָּוִיד֙ David בַּאֲרָ֔ם — בַּאֲרָ֔ם in–Aram עֶשְׂרִֽים־ — עֶשְׂרִֽים־ twenty וּשְׁנַ֥יִם — וּשְׁנַ֥יִם and–two אֶ֖לֶף — אֶ֖לֶף thousand אִֽישׁ׃ — אִֽישׁ׃ men
And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.
6 וַיָּ֤שֶׂם — וַיָּ֤שֶׂם and–placed דָּוִיד֙ — דָּוִיד֙ David בַּאֲרַ֣ם — בַּאֲרַ֣ם in–Aram דַּרְמֶ֔שֶׂק — דַּרְמֶ֔שֶׂק Damascus וַיְהִ֤י — וַיְהִ֤י and–became אֲרָם֙ — אֲרָם֙ Aram לְדָוִ֔יד — לְדָוִ֔יד to–David עֲבָדִ֖ים — עֲבָדִ֖ים servants נֹשְׂאֵ֣י — נֹשְׂאֵ֣י bearing מִנְחָ֑ה — מִנְחָ֑ה tribute וַיּ֤וֹשַׁע — וַיּ֤וֹשַׁע and–saved יְהוָה֙ — יְהוָה֙ YHWH לְדָוִ֔יד — לְדָוִ֔יד David בְּכֹ֖ל — בְּכֹ֖ל in–all אֲשֶׁ֥ר — אֲשֶׁ֥ר that הָלָֽךְ׃ — הָלָֽךְ׃ he-went
Then David put garrisons in Syria–damascus; and the Syrians became David’s servants, and brought gifts. Thus the Lord preserved David whithersoever he went.
7 וַיִּקַּ֣ח — וַיִּקַּ֣ח and–took דָּוִ֗יד — דָּוִ֗יד David אֵ֚ת — אֵ֚ת [obj] שִׁלְטֵ֣י — שִׁלְטֵ֣י shields-of הַזָּהָ֔ב — הַזָּהָ֔ב the–gold אֲשֶׁ֣ר — אֲשֶׁ֣ר that הָי֔וּ — הָי֔וּ were עַ֖ל — עַ֖ל on עַבְדֵ֣י — עַבְדֵ֣י servants-of הֲדַדְעָ֑זֶר — הֲדַדְעָ֑זֶר Hadadezer וַיְבִיאֵ֖ם — וַיְבִיאֵ֖ם and–brought-them יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ — יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ Jerusalem
And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadarezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.
8 וּמִטִּבְחַ֤ת — וּמִטִּבְחַ֤ת and–from–Tibhath וּמִכּוּן֙ — וּמִכּוּן֙ and–from–Cun עָרֵ֣י — עָרֵ֣י cities-of הֲדַדְעֶ֔זֶר — הֲדַדְעֶ֔זֶר Hadadezer לָקַ֥ח — לָקַ֥ח took דָּוִ֛יד — דָּוִ֛יד David נְחֹ֖שֶׁת — נְחֹ֖שֶׁת bronze רַבָּ֣ה — רַבָּ֣ה very מְאֹ֑ד — מְאֹ֑ד much בָּ֣הּ ׀ — בָּ֣הּ ׀ with–it עָשָׂ֣ה — עָשָׂ֣ה made שְׁלֹמֹ֗ה — שְׁלֹמֹ֗ה Solomon אֶת־ — אֶת־ [obj] יָ֤ם — יָ֤ם sea-of הַנְּחֹ֙שֶׁת֙ — הַנְּחֹ֙שֶׁת֙ the–bronze וְאֶת־ — וְאֶת־ and–[obj] הָֽעַמּוּדִ֔ים — הָֽעַמּוּדִ֔ים the–pillars וְאֵ֖ת — וְאֵ֖ת and–[obj] כְּלֵ֥י — כְּלֵ֥י vessels-of הַנְּחֹֽשֶׁת׃ — הַנְּחֹֽשֶׁת׃ the–bronze פ — פ [para]
Likewise from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, brought David very much brass, wherewith Solomon made the brasen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.
9 וַיִּשְׁמַ֕ע — וַיִּשְׁמַ֕ע and–heard תֹּ֖עוּ — תֹּ֖עוּ Tou מֶ֣לֶךְ — מֶ֣לֶךְ king-of חֲמָ֑ת — חֲמָ֑ת Hamath כִּ֚י — כִּ֚י that הִכָּ֣ה — הִכָּ֣ה struck דָוִ֔יד — דָוִ֔יד David אֶת־ — אֶת־ [obj] כָּל־ — כָּל־ all חֵ֖יל — חֵ֖יל army-of הֲדַדְעֶ֥זֶר — הֲדַדְעֶ֥זֶר Hadadezer מֶֽלֶךְ־ — מֶֽלֶךְ־ king-of צוֹבָֽה׃ — צוֹבָֽה׃ Zobah
Now when Tou king of Hamath heard how David had smitten all the host of Hadarezer king of Zobah;
10 וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח — וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח and–sent אֶת־ — אֶת־ [obj] הֲדֽוֹרָם־ — הֲדֽוֹרָם־ Hadoram בְּנ֣וֹ — בְּנ֣וֹ his-son אֶל־ — אֶל־ to הַמֶּֽלֶךְ־ — הַמֶּֽלֶךְ־ the–king דָּ֠וִיד — דָּ֠וִיד David [לשאול־] — [לשאול־] [ketiv] (לִשְׁאָל־) — (לִשְׁאָל־) to–ask ל֨וֹ — ל֨וֹ for–him לְשָׁל֜וֹם — לְשָׁל֜וֹם for–peace וּֽלְבָרֲכ֗וֹ — וּֽלְבָרֲכ֗וֹ and–to–bless-him עַל֩ — עַל֩ because אֲשֶׁ֨ר — אֲשֶׁ֨ר that נִלְחַ֤ם — נִלְחַ֤ם he-fought בַּהֲדַדְעֶ֙זֶר֙ — בַּהֲדַדְעֶ֙זֶר֙ against–Hadadezer וַיַּכֵּ֔הוּ — וַיַּכֵּ֔הוּ and–struck-him כִּי־ — כִּי־ for אִ֛ישׁ — אִ֛ישׁ man-of מִלְחֲמ֥וֹת — מִלְחֲמ֥וֹת wars-of תֹּ֖עוּ — תֹּ֖עוּ Tou הָיָ֣ה — הָיָ֣ה was הֲדַדְעָ֑זֶר — הֲדַדְעָ֑זֶר Hadadezer וְכֹ֗ל — וְכֹ֗ל and–all כְּלֵ֛י — כְּלֵ֛י vessels-of זָהָ֥ב — זָהָ֥ב gold וָכֶ֖סֶף — וָכֶ֖סֶף and–silver וּנְחֹֽשֶׁת׃ — וּנְחֹֽשֶׁת׃ and–bronze
He sent Hadoram his son to king David, to enquire of his welfare, and to congratulate him, because he had fought against Hadarezer, and smitten him; (for Hadarezer had war with Tou;) and with him all manner of vessels of gold and silver and brass.
11 גַּם־ — גַּם־ also אֹתָ֗ם — אֹתָ֗ם them הִקְדִּ֞ישׁ — הִקְדִּ֞ישׁ dedicated הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ — הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ the–king דָּוִיד֙ — דָּוִיד֙ David לַיהוָ֔ה — לַיהוָ֔ה to–YHWH עִם־ — עִם־ with הַכֶּ֙סֶף֙ — הַכֶּ֙סֶף֙ the–silver וְהַזָּהָ֔ב — וְהַזָּהָ֔ב and–the–gold אֲשֶׁ֥ר — אֲשֶׁ֥ר that נָשָׂ֖א — נָשָׂ֖א he-carried מִכָּל־ — מִכָּל־ from–all הַגּוֹיִ֑ם — הַגּוֹיִ֑ם the–nations מֵֽאֱד֤וֹם — מֵֽאֱד֤וֹם from–Edom וּמִמּוֹאָב֙ — וּמִמּוֹאָב֙ and–from–Moab וּמִבְּנֵ֣י — וּמִבְּנֵ֣י and–from–sons-of עַמּ֔וֹן — עַמּ֔וֹן Ammon וּמִפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים — וּמִפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים and–from–Philistines וּמֵֽעֲמָלֵֽק׃ — וּמֵֽעֲמָלֵֽק׃ and–from–Amalek
Them also king David dedicated unto the Lord, with the silver and the gold that he brought from all these nations; from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.
12 וְאַבְשַׁ֣י — וְאַבְשַׁ֣י and–Abishai בֶּן־ — בֶּן־ son-of צְרוּיָ֗ה — צְרוּיָ֗ה Zeruiah הִכָּ֤ה — הִכָּ֤ה struck אֶת־ — אֶת־ [obj] אֱדוֹם֙ — אֱדוֹם֙ Edom בְּגֵ֣יא — בְּגֵ֣יא in–Valley-of הַמֶּ֔לַח — הַמֶּ֔לַח the–Salt שְׁמוֹנָ֥ה — שְׁמוֹנָ֥ה eight עָשָׂ֖ר — עָשָׂ֖ר ten אָֽלֶף׃ — אָֽלֶף׃ thousand
Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah slew of the Edomites in the valley of salt eighteen thousand.
13 וַיָּ֤שֶׂם — וַיָּ֤שֶׂם and–placed בֶּֽאֱדוֹם֙ — בֶּֽאֱדוֹם֙ in–Edom נְצִיבִ֔ים — נְצִיבִ֔ים garrisons וַיִּהְי֥וּ — וַיִּהְי֥וּ and–became כָל־ — כָל־ all אֱד֖וֹם — אֱד֖וֹם Edom עֲבָדִ֣ים — עֲבָדִ֣ים servants לְדָוִ֑יד — לְדָוִ֑יד to–David וַיּ֤וֹשַׁע — וַיּ֤וֹשַׁע and–saved יְהוָה֙ — יְהוָה֙ YHWH אֶת־ — אֶת־ [obj] דָּוִ֔יד — דָּוִ֔יד David בְּכֹ֖ל — בְּכֹ֖ל in–all אֲשֶׁ֥ר — אֲשֶׁ֥ר that הָלָֽךְ׃ — הָלָֽךְ׃ he-went
And he put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became David’s servants. Thus the Lord preserved David whithersoever he went.
14 וַיִּמְלֹ֥ךְ — וַיִּמְלֹ֥ךְ and–reigned דָּוִ֖יד — דָּוִ֖יד David עַל־ — עַל־ over כָּל־ — כָּל־ all יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל — יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel וַיְהִ֗י — וַיְהִ֗י and–was עֹשֶׂ֛ה — עֹשֶׂ֛ה doing מִשְׁפָּ֥ט — מִשְׁפָּ֥ט justice וּצְדָקָ֖ה — וּצְדָקָ֖ה and–righteousness לְכָל־ — לְכָל־ for–all עַמּֽוֹ׃ — עַמּֽוֹ׃ his-people
So David reigned over all Israel, and executed judgment and justice among all his people.
15 וְיוֹאָ֥ב — וְיוֹאָ֥ב and–Joab בֶּן־ — בֶּן־ son-of צְרוּיָ֖ה — צְרוּיָ֖ה Zeruiah עַל־ — עַל־ over הַצָּבָ֑א — הַצָּבָ֑א the–army וִיהוֹשָׁפָ֥ט — וִיהוֹשָׁפָ֥ט and–Jehoshaphat בֶּן־ — בֶּן־ son-of אֲחִיל֖וּד — אֲחִיל֖וּד Ahilud מַזְכִּֽיר׃ — מַזְכִּֽיר׃ recorder
And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, recorder.
16 וְצָד֧וֹק — וְצָד֧וֹק and–Zadok בֶּן־ — בֶּן־ son-of אֲחִיט֛וּב — אֲחִיט֛וּב Ahitub וַאֲבִימֶ֥לֶךְ — וַאֲבִימֶ֥לֶךְ and–Abimelech בֶּן־ — בֶּן־ son-of אֶבְיָתָ֖ר — אֶבְיָתָ֖ר Abiathar כֹּהֲנִ֑ים — כֹּהֲנִ֑ים priests וְשַׁוְשָׁ֖א — וְשַׁוְשָׁ֖א and–Shavsha סוֹפֵֽר׃ — סוֹפֵֽר׃ scribe
And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Abimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Shavsha was scribe;
17 וּבְנָיָ֙הוּ֙ — וּבְנָיָ֙הוּ֙ and–Benaiah בֶּן־ — בֶּן־ son-of יְה֣וֹיָדָ֔ע — יְה֣וֹיָדָ֔ע Jehoiada עַל־ — עַל־ over הַכְּרֵתִ֖י — הַכְּרֵתִ֖י the–Cherethites וְהַפְּלֵתִ֑י — וְהַפְּלֵתִ֑י and–the–Pelethites וּבְנֵי־ — וּבְנֵי־ and–sons-of דָוִ֥יד — דָוִ֥יד David הָרִאשֹׁנִ֖ים — הָרִאשֹׁנִ֖ים the–chief לְיַ֥ד — לְיַ֥ד at–hand-of הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ — הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ the–king פ — פ [para]
And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were chief about the king.
